The Department of Epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with specific interest in spatial epidemiology and injury prevention.

　　The postdoctoral scientist will join an interdisciplinary research team led by Dr. Christopher Morrison in the Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, with active federally-funded studies of alcohol-related injuries. The postdoctoral scientist will have many opportunities to be involved in several ongoing projects, including primary data collection using GPS tracking and travel surveys, and analyses of secondary data for injury outcomes. They will be a member of the CDC-funded Columbia Center for Injury Science and Prevention and will have opportunities to contribute to ongoing center activities, including studies of environmental strategies to prevent gun violence, opioid overdose, and other injuries. The postdoctoral scientist will also be expected to continue any prior research that they may bring with them, generate new research that can spring from the work of the Columbia research team co-leaders who will act as mentors, and generate completely new lines of research.

　　The postdoc will work closely with faculty, staff, and other postdoctoral research scientists within the Columbia Center for Injury Science and Prevention, will be expected to greatly develop their proposal writing, their methodological skills, and their substantive knowledge of injury prevention science. They will have many opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications and new extramural grant proposals. In addition, when it is of value to their training and career development, the postdoc will be part of administering surveys for data collection, performing data harmonization and data analyses, leading manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, leading and collaborating on grant proposals, delivering presentations at scientific meetings, and other research and methodological career development.

　　The position offers two years of a postdoctoral fellowship with compensation commensurate with experience, an excellent benefits package, and funds for travel to professional conferences and meetings. Individuals with the following characteristics will be particularly competitive for this position: strong motivation and commitment to a career in spatial epidemiology and injury prevention science, excellent communication and quantitative skills, and the ability to conduct self-directed and collaborative research.

　　Eligibility: PhD, DrPH or other doctoral degree in epidemiology, education, or a public health discipline, behavioral science, population health, biostatistics, economics, or other related fields.

　　Preferred: Proficiency using ArcGIS or a similar geographic information system is highly desirable.
