  Summary GPO employees possess a diverse array of talent in many administrative fields and trades. This position is part of the Security Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington , District of Columbia. Responsibilities Performs duties as Access Entry Controller; and verifies credentials to ensure only authorized personnel enter the facilities. Performs inspections of vendor's vehicles to ensure only authorized vehicles, packages and equipment is permitted in the facilities. Assists in pursuing and apprehending persons fleeing a crime scene or attempting to resist arrest. Performs security details. Assists in detaining and arresting individuals for violations, misdemeanors, felonies, etc., based on probable cause. Assists in conducting Random Antiterrorism Measure (RAM) to enhance GPO's security posture. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the Police Officer, PQ -0083-4/5, you must meet the following requirements: To minimally qualify for the PQ-04 level, you must meet the following requirements as specified in 'A' or 'B': A. Applicants must possess at least 6 months of general experience which may include: Experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws. OR Applicants must also possess at least 6 months specialized experience. Specialized experience is: experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience: may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skill. OR B. Applicants must have successfully completed two (2) years of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 12 semester hours in police administration, police law and evidence, police investigation, criminology, law enforcement, general law, or similar subjects closely related to police work. Note: Applicant must submit a school transcripts- official or unofficial - at time of application. The information in the transcript must be verifiable; at the minimum, the transcript should contain the name of the institution, applicant's name, list of completed courses, semester hours, and GPA. To minimally qualify for the PQ-05 level, you must meet the following requirements as specified below: Specialized experience includes: work that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. At this level, police work must have included patrolling assigned area(s) to enforce laws and ordinances, regulate traffic, control crowds, prevent crimes and/or arrest violators. Experience as a security guard or corrections officer is generally NOT qualifying. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position. This education must have been obtained at an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. Successfully completed a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, to substitute a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience AND possess at least 9 months of specialized experience as identified above. NOTE: Appropriate documentation of completion must be submitted with your application materials. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Selectee will be required to successfully complete the Uniformed Police Training Program at FLETC. Employee must complete a three-year service agreement. This training must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency within one year of employment. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in separation by appropriate procedures. If employee separates from the police position, employee must pay back to the agency, Training Costs. Costs will be prorated based upon the time short of three years subsequent to successfully completing the Uniformed Police Training Program at FLETC. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement(02/02/2024) to be considered. Education ARE YOU USING YOUR EDUCATION TO QUALIFY? You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. Unless otherwise stated: (1) official or unofficial transcripts which cites the name of the institution are acceptable, or (2) you may submit a list with all of your courses, grades and GPA, semester, year, and credit for the course. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer. GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Any person who has been convicted of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition [Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922(g) (9)]. NOTE: The selectee for this position will be required to work one of two 12 hour Shifts. PQ-4: Shift 1 with an annual salary between $71,004 to $100,749 per year. PZ-4: Shift 2 with an annual salary between $78,104 to $110,824 per year with 10% Night Differential. PQ-5: Shift 1 with an annual salary between $78,459 to $112,006 per year. PZ-5: Shift 2 with an annual salary between $86,305 to $123,207 per year (with 10% Night Differential). Employment of Relatives Section 3110 of Title 5, U.S. Code, prohibits a Federal official from appointing, promoting, or advocating the appointment or promotion of a relative in the agency where the official is serving or exercises jurisdiction. In addition, Section 2302(b)(7) of Title 5, U.S. Code, makes it a "prohibited personnel practice" for a person in authority to "appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for the appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement of a relative." Secret Clearance: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months. GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance. Schedule A (Disability Appointment): Documentation of eligibility for employment under Schedule A can be obtained from a licensed medical professional (e.g., a physician or other medical professional certified by a state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory to practice medicine); a licensed vocational rehabilitation specialist (i.e., state or private); or any Federal agency, state agency, or agency of the District of Columbia or a U.S. territory that issues or provides disability benefits. The letter must be printed on a "medical professional's" letterhead and signed.
