Job Summary
This key operational role is responsible for all aspects of the daily operations at a rolling stock repair facility for ADM. The Plant Superintendent sets and maintains ADM's high standards for Safety and Quality for all colleagues while maintaining production and efficiency excellence.
The ideal candidate will have a leading role in developing, implementing and driving performance improvement and must be excellent at training and developing operational staff. Successful candidates will be good communicators who can nurture outstanding interplant, commercial and customer relationships. They will have the ability to identify and decisively solve problems as they arise, develop and supervise capital improvement projects and maintain records in accordance with established ADM policies.
The Plant Superintendent reports directly to the Plant Reliability Technology Center, through the Plant Superintendent of ADM Mechanical. The Renovation group currently includes 2 ADM salaried colleagues who report directly to this Plant Superintendent, and around 20 total operations colleagues as contract labor.
Job Responsibilities
Production:
Manage a rolling stock repair facility consisting of both ADM and contract labor colleagues
Coordinate production schedules of all departments and plants serviced
Proactively lead and support operational excellence initiatives
Provide technical knowledge for processes and equipment
Utilize production personnel to preform high quality repairs with as little downtime as possible at a low cost
Will be responsible for locomotive/track mobile repairs throughout ADM North American sites
Plan, initiate and put into operation, plant improvement projects on time and on budget
Continually train and develop operational staff
Health, Safety & Environmental:
Facilitate and ensure adherence to safety laws, regulations, rules and sound practices
Work with regional and local management on the continued development and implementation of Health & Safety programs, policies and procedures
Coordinate and participate in audits, prioritizing and tracking completion of findings
Ensure that unsafe behavior and conditions are corrected
Maintain the necessary Health, Safety & Environmental records and documentation
Perform Safety audits and set the example for safety
Technical Skills:
Strong Mechanical background or ability to quickly learn Diesel Mechanic principles and repair techniques
Background in Reliability programs
Ability to preform quality Root Cause Analysis using standard fundamentals and tools
Prioritization of ongoing workload, including customer interactions, with emphasis on Locomotive/Rail Movement Equipment Repair
Ability to analyze data and make good quality, data driven decisions
Mechanical Troubleshooting experience in shop setting, in field, or over the phone
Strong Recordkeeping/stock/parts/inventory keeping abilities
Management Skills:
Must have a strong commitment to employee safety
Strongly prefer degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar engineering field and/or minimum of ten years of hands-on production supervisory experience
Require excellent command of the following: leadership, problem solving, self-motivation, organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Must have confident and courteous manner
Must have established leadership skills
Must be able to hear and speak clearly, read, comprehend and communicate orally and in writing
Position requires standing and walking for long periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working with tools, working within close-confined spaces, and working within extreme temperatures
