What Success Looks Like In This Job
Under general supervision, perform a variety of skilled construction and maintenance activities that relate to the development and maintenance of the Adams County Parks & Open Space System.
Examples of Duties for Success
Construct, maintain and repair County facilities within the Parks & Open Space System. Includes construction of concrete trails, soft-surface trails, shelters, kiosks, play equipment, picnic tables, culverts and other drainage structures, restroom enclosures, pedestrian bridges, a variety of fencing and railings, and other infrastructure of the Parks & Open Space System.
Operate heavy equipment as needed to perform construction activities. Includes front-end loader, backhoe, tractors, skid-steer, tandem axle trucks, and trailers.
Operate and maintain a variety of mechanical tools and equipment including power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, sewer augers, and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing, and maintenance work.
Perform minor plumbing repair work; repair sinks, toilets, faucets and pipes; clear obstructions from water and sewer lines.
Perform minor electrical work; repair switches, panels, wiring and related items; maintain lighting system in buildings and parking lots.
Perform winterizing maintenance in facilities; remove snow from trails and parking lots as needed with snowplow trucks and small equipment.
Patrol parks and trails; identify maintenance needs and safety hazards; report needs to appropriate staff.
Trim and prune bushes, trees, and shrubs to provide clearance of sidewalks, signs and lights, as well as to ensure the continued health of the bush, tree, or shrub.
Remove fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs, and related debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.
Remove graffiti along trails and in parks and open space.
Rake leaves and clear debris from walks, trails, fields, and other facilities; sweep trail roads and parking lots; pick up trash.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success
Methods, practices, and equipment used in general construction activities including a variety of basic building trades work.
Basic tools and equipment used in maintenance, construction, and repair work.
Knowledge of concrete replacement methods, materials, and specifications.
Occupational hazards and necessary precautions applicable to assigned work.
Safe work practices.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints relative to general construction, maintenance, and repair.
Ability to perform strenuous manual labor as required.
Excellent customer service methods and practices.
Basic computer skills, survey skills, and engineering techniques.
Perform basic plumbing, welding, painting, glazing, electrical, and carpentry work.
Operate a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment.
Perform minor or routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
More Qualifications for Success
Education and Training: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience:
Two (2) years experience in general construction, maintenance, and repair.
Proficiency in various equipment and hand tool operation preferred.
Proficiency in concrete construction preferred.
License or Certificate:
Candidates must possess a valid Colorado Drivers License
Candidates must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License within nine (9) months of hire.
Candidates selected for interviews will need to provide a current copy of their motor vehicle record. Adams County is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to conduct pre-employment drug screens, background checks and motor vehicle record checks.
Successful candidates must pass all of the above, including a DOT physical and a criminal background check.

Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 pounds.
Exposure to noise, outdoors, confining work space, electrical hazards, chemicals, dust, and mechanical hazards.
This position requires frequent exposure to all types of weather conditions.
This position requires night shift work to support operations during the annual Adams County Fair and Rode
