This is a reposting of Park Foreman II - 24000032 The Department of Veterans Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Park Foreman II to oversee and execute a comprehensive range of groundskeeping and cemetery maintenance tasks at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemeteries. As a Park Foreman II, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the pristine condition and respectful upkeep of these hallowed grounds, serving our nation's honored veterans and their families. In this crucial position, you will be responsible for a diverse array of duties, including seeding, sodding, pruning, landscaping, and the meticulous care of the cemetery's aesthetic aspects. Additionally, you will be tasked with critical functions such as trench digging, building maintenance, and irrigation system upkeep, snow removal, all while adhering to the exacting standards set forth in the grounds management plan, as well as guidance from the Grounds Supervisor and Cemetery Manager. _Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general Summary and not all inclusive):_ * Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, seeding, sodding, maintaining pruning, weed whacking, park keeping, landscaping, digging of trenches, repair, and maintenance of buildings and irrigation, fertilizing, mowing, cleaning the grounds of dead flowers and trash, and overall maintaining the grounds, per the standards set forth by the grounds management plan, and/or directed to by the Grounds Supervisor or Cemetery Manager. * The preferred candidate will assist in all interment activities at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemeteries including but not limited to, preparation of gravesites, digging and backfilling of gravesites, laying of plywood or tracks to gravesites to prevent turf damage, the opening of gravesites, restoration of turf for gravesites or granite niches to condition before interment, using casket lowering device for casketed remains, correct placement and setting of remains and headstones, transporting caskets or cremations for the internment or inurnment at gravesites, per the standards set forth by the grounds management plan, and/or directed to by the Grounds Supervisor or Cemetery Manager. * In addition, duties will include snow and ice removal activities including but not limited to plowing, shoveling, sanding, or cleaning of roadways, sidewalks, and gravesites for internment, per the grounds management plan and/or directed to by the Grounds Supervisor or Cemetery Manager. * This person will use both large and small equipment at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemeteries for the purposes of grounds keeping, gravesite preparation, internment or restoration, or snow and ice removal, including but not limited to, vehicles, excavators, skid steers, ride-on lawn mowers, walk behind or push lawn mowers, chain saws, brush saws, line trimmers, shears, etc., per the grounds management plan and/or directed to by the Grounds Supervisor or Cemetery Manager. * Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, Massachusetts class 2A hoisters license, and a Massachusetts Commercial Applicator’s License. * The Park Foreman will follow all cemetery policies, and procedures in the cemetery grounds management plan and interact with staff, volunteers, military members, Veterans, families, guests, and the public in a respectful and professional manner while following all HR and safety standards, to ensure staff and guests are treated safely and with courtesy. * Assists in performing set up and break down of chairs, staging, equipment, and parking of guests and visitors for funerals or cemetery events as directed to the Grounds Supervisor or the Cemetery Manager. * Assists in the preparation for, and with the actual accreditation surveys by the VA, NCA or other organizations * In the absence of the ground’s supervisor, the Park Foreman II will perform the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor, including but not limited to, ensuring all existing standards are followed, paperwork is completed, and assignment of daily work to Park Foreman I. * Review of Park Foreman I staff at end of the day to ensure compliance with NCA, MVMS, and grounds management plan standards. They will also provide training for new employees. _Required Qualifications:_ * Ability to apply the rules, policies, procedures, standards, and specifications of designated activities. * Must be skilled and knowledgeable in the use of common trade practices for the trades of electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, masons, welders, surveyors, and landscapers. * Knowledge of and the ability to use various types of power tools, hand tools, and large equipment common to the trades, including proper calibration and maintenance of them. * Ability to work independently and perform assignments without more than normal supervision. * Must have basic knowledge of safe and best practices, procedures, regulations, and techniques used in providing properly finished work. * Must have the ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships while working effectively with others, and as a member of the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Staff. * Ability to plan and determine the materials and equipment needed for completing work assignments. * Ability to act quickly and make decisions in emergency situations. * Ability to exercise sound judgment. * Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. _Agency Mission:_ The mission of the Department of Veterans’ Services is to advocate on behalf of all the Commonwealth’s veterans and provide quality support services and to direct an emergency financial assistance program for those veterans and their dependents who are in need; an outreach program for homeless prevention, suicide prevention, two State Operated Veterans’ Homes and two Cemeteries.
