  This is a part-time (flexible) Other Personal Services (OPS) position. The hourly rate of pay is $17.00 per hour.

  General Description: The Education Specialist is the front-line educational staff for all FWC/FYCCN/Joe Budd programming and program-related operations. The Education Specialist leads educational activities, including interpretive hikes/field investigations on the trail, off-site trips, special topic classes, and other activities. Work hours are determined based on program length; Education Specialists are typically assigned to programs in their entirety.

  Goals:

  Guide experiential education programs for youth and adults.

  Deliver innovative lessons that help students and teachers deepen relationships and (re)discover a love of learning about the environment of Florida.

  Support learning in our four pillars of ethical angling, boating, shooting sports, and wildlife exploration.

  Get kids outdoors and help create the next generation that cares about the environment.

  Adapt lesson plans to accommodate personal teaching style, goals of participants, and seasonality.

  Learn, demonstrate, and share conservation-minded habits.

  Maintain safety as the number one priority in all center activities.

  Duties:

  Teach and lead groups of program participants of any age in the field and the classroom.

  Actively participate in appropriate group briefing and debriefing meetings.

  Participate in training/enrichment sessions for field staff and general Joe Budd staff training and information sessions.

  Assist with the ongoing development and refinement of current Joe Budd programs and the development of new programs as assigned.

  Organize personal equipment and supplies for field science instruction duties, including, but not limited to, backpack supplies, hand-held radios, water bottles, etc.

  Provide logistical and supervisory support for Joe Budd programs and participants, the orientation of students and guests, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

  Making presentations to interested groups, hosting and providing supplies and assistance for visiting groups, and other duties as assigned.

  Always provide for the safety of students, peers, and other Joe Budd guests to the best of your ability.

  To be always be a professional representative of Joe Budd/FYCCN/FWC.

  Use knowledgeably and maintain and return all teaching and safety equipment assigned at your departure.

  Actively engage in self-improvement as a naturalist and informal science educator.

  Maintain active communication with the Joe Budd Director on issues of importance relating to programming and operations.

  Participate in the preparation and production of new lessons.

  Candidate Requirements:

  Our ideal applicants have experience working with children in classrooms, after-school programs, nature centers, outdoor schools, or camp settings.   BS/BA degree preferred. Degrees in education, environmental or natural science (i.e., biology, geology, environmental science, ecology) preferred.

  Passion for the FYCCN/FWC mission and genuine appreciation for the natural world and conservation.

  Demonstrated time management skills.

  Excellent speaking and oral presentation skills.

  Ability to hike long distances, over uneven terrain, in all seasons, and under varying weather conditions.

  CPR & Basic First Aid trained or willing to be certified.

  Ability to work as a team.

  Desire to continually develop as both an educator and a naturalist.

  Freshwater fishing experience, USA Archery familiarity, American Canoe Association familiarity a plus.

  1-3 years of experience preferred
