Job Description:A nursing student who has completed a minimum of onemedical/surgical rotation in an accredited nursing program and is pendingnursing licensure. All nursing students hired into this position would beexpected to obtain nursing licensure as soon as possible and transition into anew graduate nurse resident position, as available, for the next availablecohort after licensure (see addendum to this job description).
Works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse except as noted inaddendum.
Responds to patient care needs by answering call lights, assistingpatients with hygiene care and nourishment, obtaining vital signs, andcommunicating constructively, effectively and timely with members of thecare tAssist with Foley catheter insertion, care and removal.Checks and documents patient vitals, glucose, inputs and outputs.Performs secondary assessments as additions to the primary assessmentperformed by a Registered Nurse.Assist with Nasogastric tube insertions.Assist with patient and family education related to the patient's diseaseprocess, medications and interventions related to plan of care.Document patient care with additional signature of Registered NurseAssists nurses and physicians within scope and competency.Active participant in meeting patient experience goals.Assists with patient transfers, admissions and discharges as directedand in compliance with the principles of safe patient handling.Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides byservice behavior standards.Demonstrates and adheres to the standards of infection prevention.Performs other duties as assigned.May be required to float to other departments (within scope ofcompetency and qualifications) based on business need.May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.Education
Required:A student in good standing in an accredited School of Nursing program havingcompleted a minimum of medical/surgical rotation I.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:Completion of all clinical coursework with the exception of final/capstonecourse.
Certification
Required:
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers(BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire withprior approval.
Experience
Preferred:1+ years of previous experience in a health care setting.
