We are seeking a Metallurgical Engineer/Materials Science Engineer to join the Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) discipline located at the Missile Solutions Sector headquarters in Huntsville, Alabama.
This position will work in the Materials and Process Engineering discipline and will be responsible for materials and process selection, product definition, and the preparation of specifications and technical reports. Candidate shall possess strong engineering fundamentals in steel metallurgy and thermal processing techniques to support steel rocket motor case processing, qualification, and product acceptance. Candidate shall be capable of analyzing a wide range of metal characteristics such as grain size, structure and phases, presence and types of intermetallic compounds, as well as defects related to manufacturing in accordance with drawing/specification requirements. Candidate shall be responsible for collaborating with project engineers on supplier process development and demonstrate the capability to conduct failure analyses linked to materials and thermal processing issues. Additional activities include but are not limited to the development, modification, improvement, and troubleshooting of processes associated with the fabrication of steel motor cases in all stages of the production process. This position will report to the Materials and Processes Engineering Senior Manager in Huntsville, AL.
Essential Functions:
Performing technical work directly evaluating/supporting the processing/fabrication of various Missile Solutions product lines.
Provide technical Engineering support to the Supply Chain.
Troubleshooting/solving processing issues at various vendors.
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution in a field such as Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering and five (5) years of related experience. A Master's degree in one of the disciplines is preferred. A GPA of 3.2 plus is required. Strong communication, technical presentation, teamwork, and Microsoft Office skills are required.
Travel up to 25% of time on a yearly basis may be required to support work at suppliers and other enterprise locations.
