The Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital is seeking an experienced MentalHealth Recovery Specialist. This is a dynamic position that isresponsible for planning and providing care to individuals within thefacility. Incumbents will frequently interact and communicate withpatients, as well as outside health agencies and family and friends ofindividuals receiving care.
Duties Include:
Therapeutic communication and support of patients
Crisis communication
Promotion of recovery
Development and facilitation of therapeutic groups
Perform routine checks and constant observations
May escort patients to medical appointments and other facilities andprovide support regarding these events
Promoting least restrictive involuntary emergency intervention andde-escalation
Facilitating groups and supervising one to one
Various work assignments on the inpatient units and in the recoveryservices area

Environmental Factors
Incumbents may be assigned to any DMH Treatment facility and any shift.Employees regularly interact with patients experiencing serious mentalillness, who present with various levels of risk to self or others -assaultive behavior, elopement risk, self-harm; and may be exposed toinfectious diseases and caustic detergents.
Duties are performed on in-patient psychiatric units, grounds of thehospital, and activity areas; may be required to drive patients ontrips, and may assist with transitions to other facilities. Duties occurin an acute setting, and the ability to be flexible in daily work flowschedule changes as patients\' needs change is essential. Lighthousekeeping and kitchen clean-up may be required. Responsibilities mayalso include personal assistance for showering, toileting, eating, andother activities of daily living. There is potential exposure to bodilyfluids, infectious disease, or cleaning products used in a healthcareenvironment.
