The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 2 position statewide. This position will be working within a multi-disciplinary program responsible for expansion of home and community-based services for youth birth to age 21 statewide. Mental Health Counselors in this program will be responsible for training and technical assistance; systems development, support and evaluation, data coordination, reporting and analysis to inform strengths and needs of the Children's Behavioral Health System and to adjust services provided by this program to strengthen services. This program currently has several openings. Experience in one or more of the following; mobile crisis response, transitional age youth and young adults, high fidelity wraparound, substance abuse, youth with co-occurring mental health and developmental disabilities.
Incumbents may be assigned to a range of duties to include conducting program and systems assessments of strengths and needs through engagement with the youth, family members and community systems to determine new or existing needs; assess community resources and determine the resources required to fully implement new and existing programs; provide ongoing evaluation and assessment of program goals, objectives and activities; utilization of standardized techniques to create protocols for eligibility for services and appropriate course of treatment at the least restrictive level of care; develop formal training programs for agency staff and service providers by researching appropriate topics or training materials; develop training modules, present training programs, and monitor ongoing training activities; make public presentations to educate the community regarding children's behavioral health issues and services; conduct or participate in consultation and technical assistance by attending meetings in which goals and needs are determined, and appropriate strategies and plans are developed and modified; data collection and analysis; prepare reports to appraise of status of goals and initiatives of the program; integrate team and stakeholder input to facilitate appropriate and informed decisions. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above.Special Notes

Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
