Work Schedule: 8 Hr (11:00:00 AM - 7:30:00 PM)
Summary:
Mental Health Associate 2 utilizes basic principles of the biological and behavioral sciences in provision of care and safety of patients. The Mental Health Associate 2 functions as an adjunctive member of the team, accountable to and participating under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Teacher. This role also incorporates additional projects. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
1.1 Cares for patients based upon unit and/or program needs, patient status.
1.2 Initiates and maintains effective communication with patients, their families, and all members of the health care team.
1.3 In collaboration with other treatment team members, and under the direction of the RN, initiates and implements approved individualized therapeutic treatment care plans for patients.
1.4. Contributes to patient care:
• Protects patients’ rights and confidentiality·
• Implements interventions as outlined by the treatment team.
• Reports significant and emergent information concerning patients as well as events in the milieu to the RN.
• Documents pertinent data on appropriate patient care records.
• Participates in patient care conferences.
• Accompanies patients to off-unit tests/procedures when necessary.
2.1. Maintains a safe environment.
• Ensures patient belongings are checked in per unit safety standards.
2.2. Reports and follows up on environmental care issues.
2.3. Communicates milieu needs to the Charge Nurse. Responds to emergency situations.
2.4. Participates in/leads scheduled recreational and “Activities of Daily Living groups” for children and adults. Ensures the delivery of groups on time.
2.5. Initiates approved unscheduled activities with individuals and groups of patients.
2.6. Collaborates with patient care teams and attends patients’ individualized staffing as designated.
2.7. Provides age-appropriate care.
2.8. Assigns and monitors task assignments on the schedule.
2.9. Actively participates in staff meetings.
2.10. Assists in the orientation and precepting of newly hired staff.
3.1. Initiates and organizes unit-based projects to improve patient care under leadership approval.
4.1. Attends unit-based education in-services.
4.2. Identify learning needs and seek professional development opportunities.
4.3. Develops plan to achieve certification.
Other information:
Required Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in behavioral sciences or a related field.
• Consistent proficient performance at the Mental Health Associate position or equivalent experience.
• For Rush Day School position, Illinois substitute teaching license.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Progressive experience in the treatment of the mentally ill or disabled; minimum of two years related experience.
• Substance abuse certification.
Physical Demands:
• Requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
• Requires lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs.
• Lifting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.
