Position Summary
MSU Health Care Immunohematology and Serology Laboratory supports kidney, heart, lung, and bone marrow transplant programs. Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, the Medical Technologist performs molecular HLA typing, HLA antibody testing, flow cytometry, and general quality assurance.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Medical Technology and one year internship at an approved institution laboratory; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis and coagulation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and certification as a Medical Technologist or eligible as MT(ASCP) or CLS (NCA).
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA), experience with Laboratory Information System (LIS), effective verbal communication skills, and the ability to adapt to the continuous changes in the field. At least one year of pertinent lab experience and CHT(ABHI) certification preferred.

Summary of Physical Demands
Moderately disagreeable working conditions involving working with chemical and/or biological hazards. The job requires significant physical effort involving microscope analysis, manual dexterity, eye/hand coordination and standing 26 to 75% of the time.
Summary of Health Risks
Exposure to human blood, serum, and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three (3) feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
