　　Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

　　Shift: Shift 1

　　Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 4:30:00 PM)

　　Summary:

　　Skillfully performs routine and complex laboratory procedures in connection with all histology areas. All subsequent procedures and techniques in the histopathology laboratory are dependent upon optimal tissue processing, as well as the routine preventative maintenance functions. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

　　Responsibilities:

　　Recognizes and takes appropriate action with the daily operation of the histology laboratory.

　　Accepts no inappropriate specimens annually.

　　Able to process a properly stained slide by microscopic evaluation.

　　Keeps work area neat, organized and well-stocked at all times.

　　Documents reagents changes, filter changes, hot water flush and routine preventive maintenance on appropriate log sheet(s).

　　Performs advanced troubleshooting of equipment and processes with minimal assistance, documents action and notifies appropriate personnel of problems all of the time.

　　Suggests and develops new ideas and approaches in the workplace.

　　Labels and processes specimens with less than two errors annually.

　　Meets turnaround time expectations by prioritizing and organizing daily workloads 90% of the time.

　　Volunteers or willingly participates in special projects and procedures, completes them within an agreed time frame and participates in procedure implementation when appropriate.

　　Required Job Qualifications:

　　• Associate Degree HT(ASCP), certified or eligible.

　　• Two years contiguous experience. Some lab divisions may require more.

　　• Interacts effectively with peers, internal and external customers.

　　• Employees in this job classification are qualified to perform high complexity testing.

　　• Employees’ education and/or laboratory experience meet the requirements of American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

　　• Able to work in fast pace, often stressful, computerized environment.

　　• Able to lift 10 lbs and perform repetitive motions.

　　• Works in laboratory with exposure to potentially infectious materials.

　　• Potential for injury due to microtome knives, razor blades, glass and hot parrafin.
