We are Corning Advanced Optics in Keene, NH, an industry leader in the manufacturing of high precision optical systems for Remote Sensing. This is an exciting location with complete in-house design engineering, fabrication, and testing disciplines.
Role Description:
In this role as a summer engineering intern you will promote the design, enquiry, and manufacturing of world-class, high-precision opto-mechanical systems. This is a dynamic position for a person to work as part of Corning Advanced Optics’ Aerospace and Defense engineering team to develop custom precision opto-mechanical systems based on Keene’s world-class precision machining core competency.
Tasks:
Primary duties will involve working within multi-discipline project teams to design, study, engineer & build opto-mechanical systems throughout the development process from conception to delivery.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Mechanical Engineering / Technology candidate
Basic comprehension of mechanical design practices, mechanical fabrication and assembly techniques.
High level of technical curiosity and ability to learn, develop, and advance technical skills in mechanical design, precision engineering and opto-mechanical product development.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Desired Skills:
Ability to use experimentation to develop basic process knowledge, design prototype test systems, and perform proof of concept testing to validate design approach.
Poise in interaction with all levels of the organization. (Production techs to Sr. Management)
Experience with 3D mechanical design/CAD software packages such as Solidworks and familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
Ability to function on a product development team of multi-disciplinary engineers.
Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
Working knowledge of tools such as MatLab or Excel.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
