  The Economic Development and Culture Division (EDC) of the City of Toronto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sponsorship Manager to join its management team. This position plays a critical role in enabling the division’s service delivery by securing cash and in-kind support through partnerships that offset program expenditures.

  The Sponsorship Manager, will be responsible for attracting local, national and multinational corporations to invest in programs and services delivered by the Economic Development and Culture Division (EDC).

  As a member of the EDC management team, the Sponsorship Manager will advance the division's vision, establishing and implementing strategic sponsorship initiatives and ensuring operational efficiency. This position forges key partnerships with Toronto's corporate community, including blue chip corporations, financial institutions, retail and packaged goods companies. The position also leads grant management on behalf of the division.

  In this role, the manager will lead a high performing team and oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards for work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and innovation.

  In addition to leading and managing the unit's staff and budget, the person in this role will also be responsible for developing sponsorship and fundraising strategies, campaigns, and presentations that effectively integrate corporate and funding partners and their marketing and business objectives into the division's programs and services while supporting the vision and needs of the programs themselves.

  The Manager will be accountable for securing and retaining corporate cash sponsorships, government and corporate grants as well as funding from foundations, through strategic approaches, materials and negotiations. The Manager is also responsible for securing business and tourism-based partners such as hotels, retail and restaurant establishments, and business improvement areas, to invest financially and leverage their business assets to support the Division’s programs and services.

  Additionally, the Sponsorship Manager will manage sponsor and partner benefit delivery to ensure compliance with related legislation and oversee all on-site sponsor related elements and activities. They will be accountable to sponsors to ensure that all benefits are fulfilled, and that sponsor objectives do not supersede the objectives of the program or the reputation of the organization.

  Key Qualifications:

  Post-secondary education in a related discipline or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  Extensive experience in securing major cash sponsorships and grants.

  Extensive experience working in a multi-level stakeholder environment and establishing and maintaining effective partnerships and relationships with clients including businesses, community partners, agencies and public sector funders

  Considerable management experience that includes strategic planning skills and an ability to lead, motivate and empower a diverse workforce while fostering a team environment that prioritizes excellence with a track record of incorporating diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation into leadership and work practices.

  Experience leading complex projects from inception through to implementation while balancing political, community and other stakeholder interests.

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including developing sales kits, pitch presentations, creating post client reports, grant submissions and final reports.

  Strong customer service skills and ability to effectively support all stakeholders, including elected officials, other staff, key contacts, clients' diverse interest groups and the public.

  Superior analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills with a high degree of political acuity and knowledge of municipal governance and decision making processes.

  Excellent partnership development and stewardship skills with key stakeholders within both private and public sectors.

  Ability to manage competing priorities and demands in a rapidly changing environment.

  Strong understanding of the principles of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related employment legislation coupled with the ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces.
