Specifically, for the Materials & Structural Analysis Division in Bordeaux, France, we focus on building software applications intended to support the research and development for Life Sciences, Materials Science or Semiconductor customers worldwide.

What will you do?
You will be part of the Global Digital organization within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s larger Materials and Structural Analysis R&D organization, which is committed to bringing groundbreaking software solutions to our customers to help them achieve success. The applications being developed focus on using advanced approaches, including Machine Learning, to enable data analysis and workflow automation. You will be helping develop the next generation of products that are key to helping our life sciences, materials science and mineralogy customers solve their most exciting problems more effectively.
The Manager of Software Engineering leads a professional support staff and contractors responsible for developing our both C# and web based applications including data management, computing, workflow.
Perform a wide range of managerial duties pertaining to employees including hiring, on-the-job training, career development, appraising performance, promoting. Sees opportunities and provide the means for employees to pursue career growth
Build and maintain working relationships with product management, quality, executives, engineering teams, and development partners in order to understand the scope, timeline, resources and funding required to ensure software engineering projects. Demonstrate understanding of companies internal and external customer needs and how they affect business unit products and services
Collaborate with product management and key collaborators to define the scope of each software release, with an eye on the product development roadmap
Leads existing Scrum teams (approx. 12 people)
Serve as the connection point between the local team and the global organization (US, Nederland, Czech Republic)
Responsible for providing alignment and direction to the teams based on the goals and expectations from the leadership team
How will you get here?
Master’s degree in Computer Science Engineering
Experienced in leading project in industrial/scientific environment
Confirmed experience with software project management using Agile Scrum based processes
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong oral and written communication skills in English
Shown ability to work in a complex matrixed environment with ambitious priorities
Effective in collaborating with teams across the organization and globally
Good project management skills
Transparent and leads by example, holding self and others accountable. Inspires, motivates and collaborates with others
Demonstrated technical leadership capabilities
Prepared to work to timelines along iterative software development schedules
Ability to convey information to both Non-technical and technical audiences
Experience in automating system deployments, and operationalizing production systems through robust monitoring capability
Inclination and ability to actively coach and mentor engineers
