Represent Climax Molybdenum Rotterdam, NL and Stowmarket, UK sites as part of a Global Transportation Team reporting to North American Freeport-McMoRan Operations team. This position will lead a staff responsible for end-to-end logistics management in Europe for select inbound and outbound commodities. This includes but is not limited to FTL and LTL trucking, ocean, air, rail, and parcel shipping. In addition, well as key services such as warehousing, freight forwarding, and customs brokerage. The role is also responsible for the execution of customers’ delivery requirements, while striving for low costs and reliable flow of incoming raw materials to our plant. In addition, this position will be responsible for operational execution, contract negotiation, contract management, cost and performance reporting, supplier relationship management, and internal customer satisfaction. The candidate should be comfortable with identifying opportunities for continuous improvement around transportation flow and customer service. The position is registered at the Chamber of Commerce and at H.M. Customs and Excise in Rotterdam with power of attorney described.
Additional Responsibilities:
Manage, direct and lead a staff located in both Rotterdam, NL and Stowmarket, UK. As manager you will be responsible for setting priorities, assuring deadlines and execution of both tactical and strategic objectives. These objectives will often require teamwork between colleagues and external service providers or contractors.
Manage the regular flow of incoming raw materials and finished product from the USA, Chile, Canada, and other countries. This includes the management of necessary actions with stevedores, warehousing companies, carriers, customs etc. to facilitate a smooth flow of material from port to plant. This will coincide with efficient planning of storage capacity at both the Climax facility and our third-party warehouse.
Manage direct reports in the NL and UK, who will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, and transportation of shipments to end customers in accordance with customers’ delivery requirements.
Manage and ensure all recordkeeping and logs for shipping, transportation and warehousing are accurate. This includes the preparation of shipping documents, certificates etc. Recommend and implement short-term and long-term strategies for the truck and ocean logistics and warehousing of various commodities to and from European Sites.
Responsible for reviewing and approving all incoming invoices from service providers and vendors.
Responsible for the fulfillment of the European logistical side for REACH purposes for Climax Molybdenum Company. The position is registered at the Chamber of Commerce and at H.M. Customs and Excise in Rotterdam with power of attorney.
Manage cross functional relationships with external customers/suppliers including settlement of disputes, as well as internal customers such as Sales groups (including developing policies), CSRs, Production Managers, Laboratory Departments, Commodity Managers, Safety, Accounts Payable, Carriers, Climax manufacturing sites, Dutch and UK Customs, Chamber of Commerce and warehouses.
Lead contract negotiations with suppliers and service providers.
Along with the global transportation team, identify new opportunities to improve transportation flows and customer service through the implementation and monitoring of applicable KPI’s.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and/or experience equivalent to an HBO certificate in Logistics, Supply Chain or closely related certificate and six (6) years’ experience in Logistics, Supply Chain Transportation, Transportation, Business Accounting, Engineering, or closely related field within a similar industry or manufacturing environment. OR
Ten (10) years’ direct work experience in Logistics or Supply Chain in a similar level position.
Knowledge of logistical processes, shipping administration, transportation management strategies/concepts for procurement of transportation equipment and services; and transport market and regulations.
Knowledge of governmental and environmental policies and regulations related to transportation and supply chain.
Knowledge of customs and VAT regulations.
Has the ability to work with limited supervision and significant latitude to set objectives, priorities, and timelines that may impact a group or functional area within the company.
Skill in the use of computer databases to research, maintain and update records and files.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong computer skills, particularly with large complex linked spreadsheets and databases. Intermediate knowledge of PowerPoint, Access, eProcurement, Sourcing and ERP systems.
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Demonstrated ability to lead and prioritize multiple projects and drive results independently and as part of a team.
Must be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Strong negotiating skills that can be utilized on difficult projects as well as the ability to provide coaching to the team in negotiating strategies.
Travel will be required between the Rotterdam and Stowmarket locations.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the direction of this line of work and five (5) years’ experience in Logistics, Supply Chain Transportation, Transportation, Business Accounting, Engineering, or closely related field within a similar industry or manufacturing environment.
Ability to effectively communicate in the Dutch and English languages, both verbally and in writing with respect to job assignments, job procedures, applicable laws, communications with direct reports, communications with our U.S. based corporate office and safety standards.
Master’s degree or equivalent, and four (4) years’ experience in Logistics, Supply Chain Transportation, Transportation, Business, Accounting, Engineering or closely related field.
Preferably working knowledge of the German and French language.
Knowledge of site processes, equipment and infrastructure.
Five (5) years of Transportation or Logistics experience, or similar background with specific emphasis on truck and ocean transportation.
Solid understanding of REACH regulations.
Experience working with Dutch and U.K. customs.
Experience in developing metrics and KPI’s to manage logistics operations and transportation suppliers.
Strong organizational, coordination and project management skills.
Proficiency in SAP.
