About Manager - Health Equity Strategies

  Job Description

  The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a Manager of Health Equity Strategies within the Office of Health Equity (OHE) to play an essential part in advancing health equity initiatives for vulnerable populations across the Commonwealth. As the day-to-day lead for the Interagency Health Equity Taskforce (IHET), you will drive the implementation of the IHET's strategic plan, focusing on cross-cutting policies and programs to address health disparities. Your responsibilities include facilitating key IHET meetings, assessing progress of working groups, and providing valuable policy and strategy recommendations. You will also conduct thorough environmental scans to identify best practices and develop tools to guide IHET in recommending policies that foster health equity.

  Collaboration is at the heart of this role, as you engage with internal and external partners to develop and implement disparities initiatives, presentations, and briefs. Your influence extends to data visualization, where you will guide IHET epidemiologists in creating impactful visuals for EOHHS and DPH leadership. Additionally, you will champion accessibility by coordinating IHET meetings and implementing effective onboarding strategies for new members.   Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  Assist in advancing health equity-framed policies across state agencies.Provide policy and strategy recommendations to support IHET decision-making.Lead and participate in recurring project management and leadership meetings. Serve as lead on coordinating accessibility of IHET meetings across all participants.Track and support ongoing work and progress of IHET working groups.Provide guidance to IHET by producing analytics, data visualizations, and/or data briefs for IHET-related activities.Partner with internal and external stakeholders to assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of disparities initiatives.Collaborate with IHET epidemiologists to respond to data requests from the communications office and other programs within DPH, legislators, and the public.Create and use effective environmental scans on existing public health policies (such as analyzing what other states are doing relative to establishing equity goals) to assist in designing frameworks for IHET.Serve as a key contact for the Office of Health Equity's MA State Budget.Develop and implement onboarding strategies for new members of IHET.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Master's in Public Health.Understanding of social determinants of health and a strong commitment to health equity, particularly racial equity, and environmental justice.Current or previous work in health communications or related field such as public health, social services, or public administration. Critical thinking skills, including the ability to assess practicality of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills, including the ability to respond to competing interests under time constraints.Experience supporting or leading the development of strategic communications plans.Ability to present clear and concise information to diverse audiences.Strong technical proficiency and usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.

  Qualifications

  MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  Applicants must have at least (A) four (4) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

  Substitutions:

  I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

  II. An Associate's degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

  III. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.

  IV. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.

  V. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
