We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Manager, EHS – Specialized Products, North America within our Risk Management department to help support our Specialized Products Business Unit. We design, develop, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort, motion, and style in the work and home furniture industry. As a(n) Manager, EHS you will be joining a global team of partners dedicated to environmental, healthy, and safety and will have the opportunity to lead the EHS efforts for Specialized Products within North America. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by collaborating in the building and implementing policies and procedures to keep our team members safe. The team you will be working with is a well-oiled machine, and values continous improvement to help bring the most out of their team members. The position reports to the Senior Director, EHS.
So, what will you be doing as a(n) Manager, EHS?
Assist in the design and implementation of programs to enhance EHS protocols at assigned Leggett & Platt (L&P) locations, including behavioral safety and regulatory compliance programs, to help the company lower its total cost of risk and continuously improve performance to protect our partners.
Advise local plant leadership on how they can improve EHS practices, workplace safety, and the safety culture.
Coordinate with leadership, on EHS related capital budget items, including helping to create business case for their acquisition.
Support ergonomic protocols and initiatives for L&P locations.
Advance and oversee EHS training to employees.
Develop meeting agendas and conduct regular EHS meetings with local managers, supervisors, and employees.
Oversee the incident/accident investigation process, including identification of root cause, and ensure that local managers, supervisors, and employees are properly trained to conduct investigations, develop, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Record applicable information in L&P tracking software systems.
Ensure safety alerts are prepared and promptly shared with all L&P locations.
Establish a local safety self-audit program, train appropriate personnel how to audit, and perform periodic reviews to ensure compliance.
Regularly review workers compensation, incident investigations, and facility EHS assessments to determine accident trends and root causes and develop accident prevention initiatives based on these analyses.
Interpret and answer basic EHS, EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory compliance questions.
Be the internal “go to” person for all questions related to EHS and maintain the knowledge required to be a subject matter expert in EHS management; this includes keeping abreast of changes in laws and regulations affecting L&P operations.
Collaborate with the management, supervisors, and other operations personnel to identify, quantify, and analyze claims data and causal information so that future claims can be reduced, in terms of both frequency and severity, primarily through appropriate operational procedures, safeguards, and behavior, and through loss prevention initiatives.
Regularly participate in “open items” meetings with internal and external colleagues associated with the risk management and insurance program to ensure that performance deadlines are being achieved and that initiatives are moving forward as desired
Be a key communicator with leadership teams to assure awareness and focus on key events, trends, and metrics.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
Degree in EHS Management, EHS Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field or equivalent in experience; plus 6 years of experience in an EHS role.
Proven success in improving leading and lagging EHS indicators
Experience with regulatory (EPA, OSHA, other) inspections and inquiries
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Keen organizational skills and high level of attention to detail
Proficiency in technology and equipment used in EHS inspections
Microsoft Office suite knowledge
Comfortable presenting to large audiences
Ability to travel (20-30%)
Manufacturing, automotive, aerospace or hydraulic cylinders industry experience preferred, but not required
