Job Summary
The Manager, Air Safety is the corporate-wide focal point for day-to-day management of all Air Safety activities. This department is the focal point for Cirrus Safety Management Systems (SMS) activities and safety oversight of continuous operational safety performance of Cirrus aircraft, and to identify opportunities for safety improvement. The Manager works closely with the department director, and coordinates closely with many other departments including engineering, field service, and flight test to achieve these goals. The Manager also works closely with the Senior Air Safety Investigator in investigating incidents and accidents, and directly manages all investigation follow up activities to include submitting design enhancements. The Manager also provides Air Safety Investigator (ASI) support to Cirrus incidents and accidents by participating as an ASI when needed.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Manager Duties
Respond on short notice to issues that affect flight safety by coordinating immediate response as the leader of the internal coordination meeting (SORT process)
Manage department and IT resources to support all internal safety committees, board and management committees as necessary with safety data analysis
Draw conclusions from this data to substantiate appropriate follow-up actions across the spectrum of design, production, maintenance, and flight operations by coordinating corporate expertise
Identify fleet wide issues and pursue solutions
Manage corporate safety database, network data storage and online teams
Recommend design/procedure/maintenance improvements based on investigations
Manage accident report and database workload to ensure timely completion of internal reports and external submissions
Manage Recoverable Data Module (RDM) software design, maintenance processes and provide training and assistance in data recovery and analysis
Provide assistance and expertise to the legal department in support of all litigation aspects including on-site wreckage examinations and depositions/expert witness testimony
Update company Safety Management System (SMS) processes including department SMS documentation, BowTie Hazard Registers and Risk Analysis’ as applicable
Provide internal and industry level briefings on Cirrus safety results and initiatives
Manage department personnel actions, resources and budget
Manage related administrative activities including issue tracking (JIRA tickets), service bulletins/advisories, service manuals, pilot manuals, etc.
ASI Duties:
Coordinate with the Senior ASI to provide on-call duties involving short notice travel domestically & internationally
On site accident investigation in austere conditions
Perform necessary parts removal in a field environment using hand tools to include rendering pyrotechnics and other systems inert on damaged aircraft
Proficiently document and gather physical evidence through use of photography, note taking, and other methods
Work with varied government agency representatives during an investigation
Ability to write clear and concise factual reports
Ability to display and interpret stored data from mishap aircraft
Work with cross-functional teams within company to assess risk, determine root cause, and develop containment and corrective actions as needed for reported safety issues and those identified in the course of investigating accidents and incidents
Create and present information to various internal and external parties
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge and understanding of aviation safety programs, including Safety Management System (SMS), Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), and Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA)
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
PC Skills, including MS office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
Qualifications

Education/and or Experience
Minimum of combined 10 years full time aviation experience in air safety, aircraft field or factory service center maintenance and/or accident investigations.
Ability and experience in analyzing complex aircraft systems and integrated software systems
Cirrus SR2X or SF50 aircraft experience a plus
Licensed Airframe & Powerplant License preferred
Prior experience investigating aircraft accidents/incidents or AOG aircraft with a GAMA organization, FAA, or NTSB desired
Licensed pilot with IFR rating desired (currency not reqd.)
Bachelor of Science degree preferred

Certification in Safety Management System (SMS)
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
Extensive working knowledge of applicable FAA, ICAO, NTSB regulations
NFPA, NAS, and DCMA regulations
Familiarity with aircraft design, systems, aerodynamics, and operations
Demonstrated ability to work with senior executives and with senior management and technical representatives from regulatory/investigative agencies
