Summary About the Position: This position is located in Fort Moore, Georgia, Facilities Maintenance Division. All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (5 CFR 575.203) Responsibilities Use hand or power tools to perform minor maintenance and repairs. Perform operational checks on maintenance equipment. Perform maintenance work involving trades, such as roofing, asphalt work, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and cement work. Performs routine maintenance, overhaul, and repair of standard types of mechanical locking devices such as mortise, rim, key-in-the-knob, deadbolt, office equipment, padlocks, and emergency exit locks. Perform operational tests to determine need for repair of building structures, fixtures, and utilities. Use precision measuring instruments and electrical testing devices to perform routine maintenance tasks. Prepare materials according to direction. Review blueprints, repair manuals, and/or parts catalogs to perform maintenance tasks. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, and occasionally work in uncomfortable positions for short periods of time. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up material that weighs 15 pounds and occasionally handles materials and equipment that weighs 40 pounds and over. Working Conditions: Work assignments are conducted both inside and outside and the employee is subject to cuts and bruises and occasional falls. Unpleasant odors maybe encountered from various working environment. The employee is required to wear appropriate safety clothing.
