In this position the candidate carries out all geriatric nursing care,treatment and services in a professional and prescribed manner withinscope of license; provides a safe, therapeutic and hygienic environment;assigns and oversees duties of subordinate staff. Provides a variety ofnursing care for infirm geriatric residents; oversees and trainssubordinate staff in specific resident care; observes and reportsresident behavior and physical condition; administers medical treatmentand intervention according to the plan of care; acts as lead or performslimited supervision on an assignment. Works under the supervision of anRN or physician. In the event the Geriatric LPN 2 position is the chargenurse, the incumbent oversees the functions of all other Geriatric LPNs2 on the unit, as well as the Certified Nursing Assistants. The numberof Geriatric Nurses II, Geriatric LPNs II and CNA positions typicallyassigned to work on a unit varies according to the shift. Learns,implements and monitors Arizona Management System (AMS) methods. UsesAMS concepts and tools for problem solving and continuous work/processimprovements and efficiencies. Incorporates a cultural focus onVeteran/Member-centered care in the performance of job duties.
Job Duties:
Administers medication and performs treatments on an assigned unitas ordered by the physician and within scope of license. Medicationsmay be in a variety of forms including oral, enteral, parenteral,suppository, etc.Treatments may include sterile and aseptic wound cleaning anddressing, postural drainage and percussion, tracheostomy,gastrostomy and jejunostomy care and catheter care.Observes and reports the effectiveness of medications andtreatments. Ensures an adequate amount of supplies and medicationare available.Receives and delivers a variety of information regarding theresidents\' medical, social, functional and other needs.Participates in the receiving and giving of shift reports.Communicates with resident, family and staff as necessary to ensurethe resident receives appropriate care from the interdisciplinaryteam. Completes the initial admission nursing assessment tool on anewly admitted resident.Assists with the development of the Minimum Data Set (MDS)assessments, ongoing quarterly reviews and care plans.Maintains appropriate clinical and administrative documentationregarding diagnosis, observations, treatment and summary of residentprogress.Supervises subordinate staff and assists as needed with directresident care for the completion of Activities of Daily Living(ADLs) including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, personalhygiene and mobility.Learns, implements and monitors Arizona Management System (AMS)methods.Utilizes AMS concepts and tools for problem solving and work processimprovements.Actively participates in AMS processes such as Huddle Boards,Problem Solving, Job Breakdown Sheets, Success Tracking, andStandardized Work.Fully participates in the QAPI program, our Quality Assurance andPerformance Improvement, Which incorporates AMS concepts. Conductsand participates in in-service training and staff developmentprograms for regularly employed staff.Attends and participates in staff meetings.May collect and analyze data for quality improvement and infectioncontrol programs. Trains/orients new employees.
