JOB REQUIREMENTS: The City of Onalaska is seeking to hire Lifeguards. Anemployee in this position works under the supervision of the AquaticsCenter Specialist. Position responsible for the supervision, health andsafety of all persons during the hours that the pool in use. Thisposition is a limited term, seasonal position not to exceed 600/1200hours. Scheduled hours may vary, but will include mornings, afternoons,evenings, week-ends, and holidays. Essential Job Functions: Enforcespool rules, regulations and policies governing the conduct of personsusing the pool. Monitors assigned areas for potential accidents orsituations and is continually alert to developing situations. Respondsin the appropriate manner to assist or rescue person in need, andadministers necessary first aid and CPR as situation requires. Assistswith the maintenance and cleaning of the pool, gutters, bathhouse, andgrounds; and make minor adjustments on filter and chemical system asdirected. Maintains order in the pool facility and, as far as possible,anticipates potential trouble and takes appropriate steps to prevent it.Maintains a friendly, helpful and courteous approach in dealing withpatrons and fellow employees at all times. Performs the lessoninstruction program or swim team program as directed by pool manager orsupervisory staff. Plans, organizes, and conducts swim lessons throughthe effective use of program materials; evaluates the progress andperformance of student\'s swimming abilities; maintains records ofattendance and level of competency of students; supervises students.Plans, organizes, and leads practice sessions; supervises participantsduring practices, meets, and during other specified times; assesses andevaluates swimmer\'s skills and techniques to enhance swimmer\'sabilities; develops and implements appropriate levels of training;evaluates and makes recommendations to improve the program. Reportsdefinite or potential hazards, and unsafe pool or equipment conditions.Maintains an acceptable appearance of both uniform and personal hygieneat all times. Contributes to a cooperative working effort bydemonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work or specialprojects as needed or requested. Job Requirements: Previous coaching/teaching experience and/orknowledge of competitive swimming, skills and techniques preferred.Previous experience teaching, training, or working with childrenpreferred. Current certifications required or ability to obtain uponhire as follows: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, BasicLifeguarding, or YMCA Lifeguarding, or National Pool and WaterparkLifeguarding (NPWLT) Program Certificate, or other lifeguardcertification approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health and SocialServices. American Red Cross First Aid or other approved first aidcertification American Red Cross or American Heart Association.Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children and infants orother approved certification. Compensation: Wage range for thisseasonal, limited-term position is \$11.00 to \$14.00 per hour dependingon qualifications. Flexible scheduling available.
