  Job Description

This is a non-merit position with the Department of Human Services - Glenwood Resource Center. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Temporary LPN to join the team at the Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) which offers a continuum of care to Iowans experiencing intellectual disabilities. This is a temporary position with 8-hour shifts and a varied schedule which will include a weekend rotation.

Under functional supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN performs technical nursing procedures and assures medical and nursing orders are carried out, treatments are performed, and all federal, state, local, and patient care standards are met. This includes general and emergency nursing interventions, performing physical assessments to identify health care needs, and documenting all assessments, observations, care, and treatment provided. Communication is a key part of this role as the LPN regularly shares information to RNs, physicians, as well as other team members as appropriate.

While providing direct care to individuals is the focus of this position, the LPN also plays an active role in the general operation of the facility as well. This position provides functional supervision of care provided by unlicensed nursing personnel, engages in performance improvement activities, collects and reports data, and implements performance improvement measures. There is support for growth and development as an LPN at GRC. Along with participation in interdisciplinary treatment teams, work groups, nursing service teams, and committee assignments, LPNs also attend seminars, conferences, and other trainings to stay current in evidence-based nursing care standards and to advance their knowledge in the field.

An LPN license for the state of Iowa and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals (QIDPs) lead multidisciplinary teams in an integrated approach to service provision. Team members include: the individual, the individual's family/guardian, local county or HHS staff, direct support professionals, psychologist, psychology assistant, social worker, occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist, physical therapist, vocational/day program specialist, leisure specialist, dietitian, nurse, physician, pharmacist, psychiatrist. Specialty medical services are offered through community clinics and include podiatry, surgery, otolaryngology (ENT), gynecology, and optometry. Services are person-centered, strengths-based and focus on assisting the individual to transition to his/her community of choice.

Located in southwest Iowa, GRC provides residential services for individuals who have struggled to be successful in the community, gives in-home support for those who transition to the community, and assists community-based providers by providing assessments, training, and other technical support. The goal of all GRC services is to help individuals be successful in their communities.

If you enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary team, helping to develop person-centered Individual Support Plans, while also helping individuals stabilize and return to their community of preference then this is a wonderful opportunity to consider.
