Job Announcement
Under the general direction of the division director for Library Support Services, administers and coordinates the collection management and acquisitions department of the library, which selects, acquires, and manages all library materials. Provides system leadership on collection issues ensuring alignment with the Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) strategic plan. Proposes and implements collection management procedures in support of the library board and system policies. Analyzes and tracks collection use, ensures responsive and cost-effective library collections. Builds effective relationships with branch staff to ensure library collection reflects customer usage and trends. Leads the library collection team to ensure communication of library policies, procedures, trends and provides techniques and tools for collection management. Acts as library subject matter expert during contract negotiations with vendors. Tracks publisher, vendor, and information industry developments to position the library to respond and take advantage of change. Leads, coaches and mentors the Assistant Coordinator and provides leadership for the larger collection team. Performs other duties as may be assigned to further the goals and objectives of the FCPL.
Salary: The salary offer will not exceed the midpoint (or $106,382.22) of the advertised compensation range (Compensation rules apply per Fairfax County personnel regulations for current Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools employees).
Schedule: Occasional overtime may be required.

Develops, plans, implements, and evaluates program services;
Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates subordinate personnel;
Serves as system resource for collection- or cataloging-related software, systems and practices; Facilitates implementation of library strategic initiatives across service areas;
Leads comprehensive projects with direct impact on branches, divisions and virtual customers;
Directs multiple work units and supervises professional staff;
Advises management on new policies, methods, or technologies and recommends changes in existing programs and procedures;
Develops short and long range objectives for program areas;
Prepares and administers program budget;
Evaluates vendor performance for established contracts;
Assists in planning the collection for new or renovated new facilities;
Represents the program area through committee assignments and presentations;
Represents the library in cross-agency and cross-organizational initiatives;
Remains current with information industry standards and makes recommendations for utilization;
Provides advice and consultation regarding problems in program area;
Conducts workshops and training for library staff and other organizations.
May prepare justification documentation for contracts;
May prepare statistical reports or other metrics for departmental performance measures.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from college with a Master's degree from an accredited library school plus four years of professional library experience including two years in a supervisory capacity.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a certificate issued by the Virginia State Board for Certification of Librarians-Required within 3 months of appointment.
A valid motor vehicle driver's license at the time of application.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Five or more years of library experience, to include three or more years in a supervisory capacity.
Broad Experience with fiction and nonfiction literature and resources.
Experience with reporting and data analysis and the use of Excel (or similar tool), especially relating to collection metrics and vendor performance.
Demonstrated ability to multitask, be flexible in a changing environment and manage competing priorities.
Strong attention to detail, and customer service experience.
Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County to attend meetings and trainings, conduct trainings and on-site visits, meet with vendors. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
