POSITION OVERVIEW
John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY invites applications for the Lecturer position of Gallery Director/Curatorial Studies. Starting Fall 2024, the new Director of the Anya and Andrew Shiva Gallery at John Jay College will be responsible for all aspects of operations, maintenance, and programming at the gallery, and will also teach two courses per semester in contemporary art, curatorial and/or museum studies. The ideal candidate will have a passion for presenting dynamic public visual art programming, teaching undergraduate students, and the ability to use the resources of the gallery as a teaching tool for the larger college community and beyond.

ABOUT THE ANYA AND ANDREW SHIVA GALLERY
Opened in 2013, the Anya and Andrew Shiva Gallery is located on the corner of 59 th Street and 11 th Avenue, at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Gallery programs extend the College’s mission of Educating for Justice by presenting works of art which engage challenging questions, highlight injustice, and advocate for a more just and equitable future.
DUTIES
Oversee physical operations and maintenance of the Anya and Andrew Shiva Art Gallery.
Teach in the areas of contemporary art issues and curatorial and museum studies (2 courses per semester)
Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administration in curriculum and program development for exhibitions and related programming.
Handle all aspects of publicity and media relations, including website and social media content.
Supervise students, staff, independent contractors, and volunteers.
Pursue grant funding to support Gallery programming and operations.
Serve on department, College and university committees.
Other duties as assigned.
Implement art exhibitions selected by the gallery committee, including installation, communication with artists and curators, organization of the reception and ancillary events, mailing and care of the artworks.
QUALIFICATIONS
QUA L IF I C A T I ONS
PhD, MFA, or equivalent terminal degree in related field by the time of appointment in August 2024. Also required are the ability to teach successfully and cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred qualifications
Teaching experience in curatorial studies and contemporary art and administrative experience in art-related positions.
COMPENSATION
$52,072- $92,878 Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
