We are seeking a Lead Systems Development and Verification Test Engineer to join our Defense Hypersonics Systems Development & Test (HSDV&T) department at our West Palm Beach facility.
The Lead Systems Development & Verification Test Engineer will work with other lead engineers within Systems Development & Test Engineering to conduct component and engine verification test planning and execution, ground test facility integration, and requirement verification reporting. The engineer will support Program testing from planning and estimating through testing and reporting phases. The engineer will work in a team environment to coordinate testing activities with all Engineering stakeholders.
Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense Hypersonics Systems Development & Test (HSDV&T) department in West Palm Beach is an integral part of the Defense Systems Engineering discipline. The Defense WPB HSDV&T department supports Hypersonic and High Speed Air-breathing propulsion research, experimentation and development of multiple configurations for multiple Prime contractors.
Essential Functions:
The systems test engineer will perform test planning through the capture of all test objectives to create detailed test planning documents including engine and facility operating procedures. The systems test engineer will manage, develop and control special test equipment and test instrumentation needed to verify requirements. Duties include management and control of test data and delivery and final test reporting. Systems verification engineers will also manage and control Test Readiness Reviews and ensure test articles and facilities meet safety and test requirements.
Duties will include test development and control of ground and flight test activities including test anomaly analyses and data analysis. Significant test operations support and personnel certification will be performed requiring off-campus test support. Duties will include providing direction for test component / engine assembly and teardown activities and test article inspection plans and processes. System verification engineers are responsible for creating and maintaining transient test run programs and facility to engine control procedures.
Propulsion development activities include contributing technical analyses to anomaly investigation and resolution teams. As required, provide on-site customer technical support for engine ground test coverage and analyses, and system flight test activities.
Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and nine (9) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position requires knowledge and experience with air-breathing high-speed propulsion systems used in defense applications. Experience with engine testing, including Aerojet and non-Company test facilites is desired.
Experience/Qualifications:
Educational background and/or working experience in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
Knowledge and experience with air-breathing high-speed propulsion systems, data analysis, systems integration, and test planning.
Candidate must be self-motivated, maintain attention-to-detail, and have good interpersonal skills to work effectively in team environments both virtually and in-person.
Good written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Schedule flexibility to provide test or flight support outside of normal office hours is required.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%.
