Program Summary
KBR leads the government services world contingency market by providing responsive, full-service logistics support to forces deployed around the world under the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program contract (LOGCAP). KBR’s enduring mission support of the LOGCAP program dates back to 1992 when we served as the contract’s original prime contractor. Job Summary
As a Fire Sprinkler and Suppression Systems Technician on LOGCAP, you will maintain sprinkler fire suppression systems. This work includes servicing and inspecting Wet, Dry and Pre-action fire suppression systems while adhering to NFPA codes and standards.
Roles and Responsibilities
Maintain and conduct routine preventative maintenance on sprinkler fire suppression systems across the base while meeting all deadlines.
Ensure that fire pumps are in good operating condition.
Perform flow tests on fire hydrants.
Install, maintain, repair, and/or replace fire sprinkler equipment and systems in strict accordance with applicable NFPA codes and standards.
Conduct service and inspections of Wet, Dry, and Pre-action fire suppression systems.
Assist with design, layout, field surveys, and client meetings as needed to secure a bid when requested by management.
Understand and apply all applicable Codes and Statutes.
Understand and apply NFPA-10, NFPA-12, NFPA-12A, NFPA-17, NFPA-17A, NFPA96, NFPA-2001 and other NFPA codes as needed.
Understand and apply all applicable DOT codes and regulations.
Inspect, service, test, repair, and install all types of fire extinguishers and pre-engineered kitchen suppression systems.
Recharge and hydrostatic test high and low-pressure extinguishers and pre-engineered kitchen suppression tanks.
Inspect, service, test, and install exit and emergency lights.
Maintain and clean the extinguisher service shop to maintain a safe working environment.
Perform manual labor including lifting, climbing, and clean-ups.
Provide supporting documentation for maintenance of fire sprinkler systems and related device(s) associated with fire suppression systems.
Follow directions and work independently as needed.
Ensure that the procurement of material, equipment, and supplies from project managers is accurate.
Maintain good, professional customer relationships.
Maintain good working relationships with the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
Provide an aggressive and proactive approach to satisfying client needs.
Complete accurate and timely maintenance and work records.
Utilize an iPad or similar tablet computer to complete all project-related paperwork electronically.
Provide timely communications to the supervisor regarding any project-related issues or improvements.
Review daily work orders for accuracy.
Perform service department duties as required.
Perform all tasks on service repairs, deficiencies, required tests, and inspections.
Assist clients and other technicians in after-hour emergency or service-based calls.
Learn to use the Service Trade System within 90 days.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
Requires a High School Diploma and at least 3 years of experience as a Fire Sprinkler Technician or Fire Sprinkler Inspector.
Must have at least 2 years of hands-on experience in fire extinguisher and pre-engineered kitchen suppression systems inspections, recharging, and hydrostatic testing.
Must be highly organized and a motivated team player.
Experience with multiple systems such as Dry Systems, Wet Systems, Deluge, Pre-Action is required.
Must have a good working knowledge of all tools, equipment, and materials necessary to complete all tasks.
Must be mechanically inclined.
Must have a strong attention to detail.
Requires a valid driver’s license.
Requires a valid Passport with at least 18 months of validity left.
Requires a positive attitude, and willingness to learn as the job progresses with the intent of improving to become a lead inspector in the future.
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.
Requires the ability to interpret shop and contract drawings regarding the scope of work.
Must have knowledge of fire extinguisher classifications, types, sizes, ratings, service and repair practices, as well as specifications of each.
Must be able to work long hours when necessary.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50-75 pounds.
Must be able to climb and use 4, 6, and 12-foot ladders as needed.
Required Certifications-any of the following are acceptable:
Certificate of Fitness for Water-based fire sprinkler systems from an organization such as NICET or equivalent.
Any Back-flow testing certificate.
Any Sprinkler Fitter Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications (Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
Experience in testing of Back-flow prevention devices is preferred.
Experience in servicing and testing Portable fire extinguishers is preferred.
Candidates must meet visa and or work permit requirements for the country of assignment to be considered and eligible for employment.
