DescriptionThe Laborer Lead assists the recycling supervisor/manager with the daily activities and performance of the sort line laborer staff. This position provides leadership in directing the production and safety of the sorting line. The Laborer Lead will assure the quality of material being processed. Laborer Lead may be exposed to unpleasant odors and sights and weather elements. The hours and physical demand may vary by location.Responsibilities of Position:Ensure all safety and compliance standards are met or exceeded.Ensure proper PPE is utilized by line employees and Lock- Out/Tag-Out procedures are adhered to consistently.Inspect materials and sort items or materials into designated areas according to type, size, condition, color, or paper grade.Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.Dump boxed and containers of material into designated area(s).Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.Coordinate the flow of product for the recycling operation and ensure quality control.Monitor and advise supervisor/manager of policy or procedure violations.Direct employees in completion of work.Train or assist in training new employees.Continuously monitor equipment to ensure proper operation and minimum down time.Report system problems immediately to management.Maintain a clean and orderly work area and surrounding area.Maintain an excellent attendance record and an excellent safety and work quality record.Load and/or unload tractor trailers as needed.Performs duties in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.Other duties as assigned.Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including standing. reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and climbing).Good verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with other personnel and management.Must have an excellent attendance record.Exhibit the ability to distinguish between various recyclable materials.Self-starter, aggressive work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision.Safety conscious.General knowledge of the operation of various equipment (i.e., Forklift, baler, bobcat, sorting lines, etc.)Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:Exposure to residential and commercial waste.Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.Legally eligible to work in the United States.Valid driver's license (if applicable).Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.Must be able to read and speak the English language.This job description is intended to describe the general nature, complexity, and level of work to be performed by employees assigned to this position and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and/or skills required.
