About the Department
The Pathology Department at the University of Chicago is aninterdisciplinary department that studies the pathogenesis of diseaseacross different disease types. Faculty include basic scientists,clinicians, and translational researchers. This at-will position iswholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewedunder provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will becontingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds andsatisfactory job performance.
Job Summary
The Lab Manager will assist Dr. Raman in (i) executing projects, (ii)overseeing projects at the discretion of Dr. Raman, (iii) managing labordering, (iv) managing lab maintenance, (v) managing lab chores to beexecuted by the lab. This position is the primary executor of certainprojects at the discretion of Dr. Raman and engage in activities typicalof graduate students in the laboratory. As the science is dynamic, thisposition is expected to be the primary contact point for vendors ofemerging technologies, learn the emerging technologies in the lab andkeep a detailed lab notebook regarding said technologies, teach thesetechnologies to members of the lab who join, and understand that thenature of these technologies will be variable over the tenure of theirposition. Finally, the Lab Manager will serve as the main contact forbudgetary issues and maintaining/balancing the Raman Lab budget.
Responsibilities
Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledgerelevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level ofdirection, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks.Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according toplan.Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects.Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts.Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures,directives, and mandates.Takes responsibility for the following non-laboratory duties:transcribing and coding data; developing data collectioninstruments; presenting research; and recruiting and schedulingresearch subjects. Acquires higher-level skills and knowledge.Takes responsibility for the following laboratory duties:recognizing abnormal results and varying conditions or procedures tocorrect problems; setting up and performing experiments. Analyze themeaning, significance, causes, and effects of the subject.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications

3+ years of relevant work experience.Previous experience with microbial ecology, microbial genomics,microbiome engineering, liquid handling robot experience preferablywith the Dispendix brand, spatial transcriptomics, single-celltranscriptomics, data analysis, lab management, linear algebra,differential geometry, information theory, understanding of Turingmachines, the creation of latent spaces, and wetlab techniques.Working Conditions
