Corning Inc , the world’s largest maker of smartphone cover glass, will begin manufacturing the product in India by the end of 2024 through its joint venture with Noida-based contract manufacturer Ltd, which will be called Bharat Innovation Glass Technologies .
The JV company will manufacture finished front and back cover glass for smartphones and the plant is likely to come up in Tamil Nadu (Chennai)
The Indian facility will meet the demand for the domestic consumers first and then expand its operations overseas.
Function/Dept Purpose Statement:
These “first on the ground” hires would initially be deployed to support our specification definition and procurement efforts. As construction progresses, these engineers would transition to key engineering roles as Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineers – working in production support and/or facilities/maintenance engineering departments.
Position Responsibilities:
In steady state:
• Operations, maintenance, and improvement efforts in the areas of facilities. Facilities include areas including HVAC, Clean room, power infrastructure, water infrastructure, chillers, compressors etc.
• Work with the Production org to improve manufacturing performance.
• Conduct trend analysis (by equipment, attribute, product) & monitoring / response plans.
• Conduct and lead equipment and process troubleshooting; and provide concise and accurate documentation on troubleshooting steps and corrective actions.
• Provide guidance, direction and training to technicians and operators
During project construction:
• Review and approve EPCM commercial bid packages.
• Validate construction bidders lists.
• Analyze industry and market conditions, prices and trends, and suppliers.
• Provide analytical support for negotiations and participate in negotiations.
• Support strategic sourcing and procurement activities as defined by project team.
• Manage supplier relationships, obtain NDAs, prepare contracts, and generate requisitions for project supplies and services.
• Issue and manage competitive RFQ’s, negotiate prices, and award purchase orders.
• Follow through orders from requisition to invoice payment to ensure on-time delivery.
• Conduct and facilitate supplier qualification audits for new and existing suppliers.
• Develop new suppliers to ensure on-time, high-quality products, and services.
• Monitor construction progress within coordination with EPCM and project manager
• Provides commercial experience.
• Allows engineers to acquire ground level knowledge for the steady state process and equipment they will be supporting
Required Experience:
• 15+ years experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience in defining technical specifications for equipment procurement.
• Demonstrated experience with hands-on troubleshooting of facilities equipment and/or process equipment.
Required Knowledge & Abilities:
• Engineering graduate preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical/Process
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results while managing multiple tasks and issues effectively.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and/or as a team leader.
