The Metrology Intern will assist with routine calibrations and maintenance for basic instruments in the Upsher-Smith Analytical Laboratory. Assist with non-routine troubleshooting activities for basic laboratory instruments. Support and maintain the qualified state of laboratory instruments in compliance with cGLP, FDA and other regulatory requirements. Perform project activities as designated by management. Primary Functions: Perform project support activities at direction of assigned supervisor. Research and gather information from databases and from subject matter experts. Organize and maintain project files. Capable of calibrating and maintaining Balances, pH meters, dissolution apparatuses and other laboratory equipment. Troubleshooting of analytical laboratory equipment. Basic understanding of pilot scale and pharmaceutical development equipment. Internship Requirements: Applicant must be entering their Junior or Senior year. Seeking a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering or Metrology or other related disciplines with a mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of Empower and Excel is a plus. Mental/Motor Requirements: Good verbal and written communication skills. Most assignments and gathering of data will be verbal. Ability to handle multiple priorities. Good interpersonal skills to work with operators, technicians and professional staff. Good organizational skills. This position requires reading, writing, verbal communication, math, and independent decision-making abilities. Environmental Requirements: Work is to be performed in office, maintenance shop, or production areas. Good hygiene and ability to work in GMP environment. Frequently is exposed to moving machinery, rotating parts, pinch points, electrical hazards and dust. Occasionally exposed to fumes and/or hot/cold surfaces and conditions. Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting performing repetitive motions such as, typing and writing. Often required to stand and move about, twisting and bending at the waist. Requires occasional reaching, crouching, handling, climbing, talking, and hearing. Required to wear safety glasses and lab coat while in the lab area.
