Summary Incumbent serves as the Interior Designer in the Planning and Activations section of Facilities Management Service at the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System Seattle and American Lake, Washington. Incumbent serves as a consultant for all services within the two Medical Centers, offsite lease properties, Community Based Outpatient Clinics, contracted clinics, transitional housing, and Vet Centers. Responsibilities Major Duties Incumbent is the interior design program manager responsible for a wide range of interior design related duties which include but are not limited to: Acoustical performance, appropriate ergonomics, adequate lighting, and color coordination. Interior, exterior and community way-finding (signage); Improvement of patient care environments. Improvement of employee work environments-offices, labs, kitchens, shops, laundry facilities, warehouses, garages, and canteens. Accessibility providing barrier free design based on the Architectural Barriers Act. Standardization of color schemes/themes and signage. Participation in the initial space planning to ensure space is adequate for furnishings that are needed. Selecting of furnishings with input from customers and purchasing furnishings. Assessment of pre-occupancy conditions. Coordination and planning of moves. Assurance that all furnishings used meet all applicable life safety standards; and Historical preservation. OR Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-9) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment. Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings. Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context. Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. OR Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience.
