Statement of the Job:
The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor or an Instructor position with experience and expertise in the areas of computer programming, computer assembly languages, database management, and cloud computing. The position will begin in August 2024.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach 12 credit hours (per academic semester) of undergraduate courses as assigned and advise undergraduate students. In addition, the successful candidate will also contribute to the program, unit, division, and university functions. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment across departments and University of Maine campuses while maintaining the highest standards in the classroom. Other duties may be assigned.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Demonstrates a commitment to teaching excellence, service and scholarship.
Designs and delivers courses to meet learning outcomes and promotes students' active participation in their own learning.
Helps students reach their academic, personal, and career goals and fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn.
Teaches face-to-face, online, and hyflex modalities.
Actively engages in student advising and mentorship.
Participates in curricular development (including but not limited to high-impact practices); assessment, and service to the unit, division, and university. Contributes to and provides leadership in academic and professional communities and promotes collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Starting salary is $49,520.69 for Instructor level, $59,539.83 for Assistant Professor, and $67,889.11 for Associate Professor level, based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. Benefits include a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications for hire at the Instructor level (note: Instructor should be promoted within four years to a higher rank in order to be considered for tenure):
Master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field.
A minimum of five years of practical experience in the areas of instruction.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse students and staff.
Demonstrable interest in teaching using multiple modalities and mentoring undergraduate students.
Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary, collaborative teams a plus.
Demonstrated scholarship.
Minimum qualifications for hire at the Assistant Professor level:
Highest degree traditional to discipline
Three years of college-level teaching.
Practical experience in the areas of instruction.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse students and staff.
Demonstrable interest in teaching using multiple modalities and mentoring undergraduate students.
Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary, collaborative teams a plus.
Demonstrated scholarship.
Minimum qualifications for hire at the Associate Professor level:
Highest degree traditional to discipline
Six years of college-level teaching.
Practical experience in the areas of instruction.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse students and staff.
Demonstrable interest in teaching using multiple modalities and mentoring undergraduate students.
Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary, collaborative teams a plus.
Demonstrated scholarship.
