  Major contributions to dementia care, Alzheimer's clinical trials, and research studies, interpersonal communication, mentorship and subject matter expertise in developed skills in initiated trials research, write research grants and impactful research paper providing medical leadership and oversight for all activities related to clinical research operations, personnel and finances at BAI. Established roles in the management of dementia care programs and the provision of comprehensive medical and non-medical care for patients and family caregivers. The position will work closely with BAI's executive director and other top leaders, play major roles in the advancement of BAI's clinical, research and highly collaborative mission, and major roles in relationship to BAI's organizational partners, including BAI-Tucson, Banner Sun Health Research Center, Banner Alzheimer's Foundation, and each of the institutions in the Arizona Alzheimer's Consortium.

  This role will perform 10-20% clinical and 80-90% administrative and/or research. Candidate must be located in the greater Phoenix area.

  POSITION SUMMARY

  This position is responsible for providing medical leadership and oversight for all activities related to clinical research operations, personnel, and finances at BAI. This position leads the formulation of strategies to further the mission, values and strategic clinical research initiatives across BAI.

  CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Serves as a key member of the research leadership team to establish, monitor and refine the vision, goals, strategies, and business plan of BAI needed to fulfill the mission for Banner Research. Facilitates collaboration in care and research through interactions with internal and external leaders, clinicians, and researchers. Collaborates with the research leadership team to help ensure the strategic, scientific, fiscal, and regulatory success of BAI. Oversees coordination of designated clinical and research programs and key initiatives.

  2. Provides research leadership and accountability for Clinical Trials program within the Memory Center. Manages and develops the clinical trial portfolio. Interacts with various constituents including consultants, clinical research organizations, industry organizations and regulatory agencies including the FDA, as necessary. Assists in the design and implementation of new clinical trials and provides medical oversight for all clinical trials. Performs research and research writing functions as needed. Ensures the conduct of clinical trials remains compliant with the appropriate accrediting bodies and government agencies.

  3. Leads clinical studies as Principal Investigator (PI) and performs medical evaluations of clinical trial participants, as required by study protocols. Ensures that all studies are conducted professionally, ethically, in compliance with all regulations and policies, consistent with study protocols and contracts, and in meeting fiscal targets. Responsible for providing medical evaluations and recommending treatment to clinical practice patients.

  4. Facilitates or directs development and implementation of cutting-edge research projects to make major contributions to the scientific study, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's disease. Plays a leadership role in state, national, and international research consortia and will speak on behalf of the organization at prestigious state, national and international conferences.

  5. Works with the Banner Alzheimer's Foundation to maximize charitable donations for BAI. This includes helping to organize events, interacting with potential donors, assisting in obtaining commitments for financial support for the center, and ensuring that BAI staff takes an active role in assisting the Foundation and publicizing BAI's scientific, clinical, and collaborative strengths through speaking engagements and Foundation directed efforts. Interacts with philanthropic donors, governmental and industry funding sources, and the community in general. Conceptualizes and oversees preparation of selected grants and assists as needed with others.

  6. Provides direct patient care to the assigned population, maintains timely and appropriate documentation of such care, and actively participates in medical staff duties.

  7. Oversees annual BAI research budget and operational and fiscal accountability.

  8. Provides overall research medical leadership and accountability for Clinical Trials program within the memory center.

  Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Doctor of Medicine (allopathic or osteopathic) with appropriate postgraduate medical training, board certification in neurology, psychiatry or geriatrics, and an unrestricted license in good standing to practice medicine in the State of Arizona.

  Recognized nationally as a leader in the field. Significant medical and management experience in a clinical research environment. Analytical skills in integrating and interpreting data. Excellent organizational skills, leadership ability, interpersonal, and communication skills. Must be familiar with the administration of federal grants and have working knowledge of and/or experience with fund raising. A demonstrated ability to work successfully with a broad range of disciplines and personalities is required.
