Summary:
The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. This position plays an integral role in the leadership of the Probation & Parole Division. This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing statewide operation of the Probation & Parole Division. This position requires traveling approximately 30% of the time to facilities and districts throughout the state.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership support and direction for the Division of Probation & Parole
Coordinate work assignments and ensure effective communication between division and field staff/operations.
Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve/recommend solutions to complex or unusual issues.
Develop policies and strategies that promote consistency in operations between Districts, CRC’s and Institutions while providing the flexibility to satisfy differing operations.
Provide consultation and participation for decision making on division-wide issues, policies and resource allocation.
Ensure consistency and compliance with all laws, rules and policies related to division operations and responsibilities.
Plan and coordinate special administrative projects and assignments.
Assist Division Chief to ensure Central Office Operations, Community Reentry Centers and Districts are operating in an effective and efficient manner.
Oversee personnel-related actions such as hiring, training, promotions, transfers, discipline, problem solving and recognition of staff.
Coordinate development of the division's strategic plans, monitor progress and recommend actions necessary to ensure achievement of strategic goals.
Develop stakeholder partnerships, represent the division at public gatherings, and deliver presentations at various functions.
Assist the Chief in employing a “coach vs. referee” approach to support IDOC’s efforts to improve client and resident success. This includes focusing less on compliance monitoring and more on rapport building, encouragement, modeling pro-social behaviors, and providing helpful customer service.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience managing professional staff to include planning, organizing, leading and controlling staff. Typically gained by at least 4 years of full-time work experience performing the essential elements of management (planning, leading, organizing, and controlling) that included supervision of subordinate managers and supervisorsORa bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, public administration or a related fieldANDat least 3 years of full-time work experience performing the essential elements of management (planning, leading, organizing, and controlling) that included supervision of subordinate managers and supervisors.
Experience analyzing management and program problems, identifying alternatives, and recommending and implementing solutions. Typically gained by 5 or more years of experience in the areas outlined above.
Experience preparing and making presentations to groups. Typically gained by presenting complex data and/or statistical analysis to leadership or decision makers.
Specialty Minimum Qualification:
Considerable knowledge of criminal justice. Typically gained by at least 6 years of experience working in the criminal justice field that includes at least 6 years of working with adult residents and clients.
