DescriptionThe department of Geology and Geography in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a GIS Analyst.The WV GIS Technical Center, housed in the Department of Geology and Geography in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, is seeking a GIS Analyst who will provide GIS and spatial analytics expertise within the Center to support geospatial mapping and research projects, web map and application development, and maintaining and expanding the geospatial infrastructure in the state of West Virginia.The employee will:Perform GIS, spatial analytical, digital cartography, and spatial problem-solving tasks to support projects.Generate actionable information from geospatial data and communicate results and findings in written, oral, and graphical format.Generate cartographic visualizations to communicate results and findings.Contribute to projects focused on flooding, natural hazards, and community resiliency.Develop workflows, tools, code, and associated documentation to perform spatial analytical tasks.Along with other West Virginia GIS Technical Center staff, seek external grant funding; write grant proposals; administer grants; submit grant reports; document workflows; and work with funders, clients, and other WVGISTC staff to fulfill funding requirements in a timely manner and ensure quality of all deliverables and products.Along with other West Virginia GIS Technical Center staff, manage graduate research assistants and student workers to ensure quality of deliverables and products within project timelines.WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area. QualificationsA master's degree in Geographic Information Systems/Science, Geography, Geology, Environmental Geoscience, or other cognate subject is required. In addition, applicants must have at least six (6) months of concurrent work experience working with geospatial data and performing spatial analysis, creating cartographic output and web maps, coding in the Python or R language, using ESRI desktop software (ArcGIS Pro), and using ESRI one mapping software (ArcGIS Online).Candidates should be knowledgeable of geographic information systems and how these systems are utilized for data management, analysis, and presenting all types of spatial or geographic data; Working with geospatial vector data, raster data, and remotely sensed data, such as imagery and LiDAR; ESRI ArcGIS desktop software (ArcGIS Pro); ESRI ArcGIS Online and web GIS technologies; Cartographic design principles including experience in map and web map design; Python/ArcPy or R scripting for spatial analytics and geoprocessing; GIS for mapping tasks relating to flooding, natural hazards, and community resiliency.To apply, please visit jobs.wvu.edu and navigate to the position title listed above.
