HVAC AND REFRIGERATION MECHANIC II General Statement of Duties: The HVACMechanic I installs heating, ventilating, air conditioning andrefrigeration equipment including related fixtures; checks heating,ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment formalfunctions; maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, airconditioning and refrigeration equipment; and performs related work asrequired. Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures for thistype of employment; familiarity with air quality standards. Knowledge ofcomputerized energy conservation programs and ability to monitor,program and calibrate same. Extensive knowledge of various types of HVACand refrigeration systems required in order to make recommendations onimprovements, updates and installations. Ability to communicateeffectively and to make recommendations in writing to the supervisor.Manual dexterity; mechanical aptitude. Ability to supervise, train andplan the work of others. Knowledge of the terminology, coding, symbolsand standard abbreviations used in the installation, maintenance andrepair of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning andrelated electrical systems. Skill in operating heating, refrigeration,ventilation, air conditioning machinery and related equipment. Knowledgeof electrical, electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems. Knowledgeof the use of electrical test equipment, such as voltmeters, amprobes,etc. Ability to read and interpret documents; such as, specifications,operation manuals and blue prints. Qualifications Acquired on JobKnowledge and understanding of the departmental, university and staterules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines and the abilityto apply them to unit activities; ability to use tools and equipmentavailable at the institution; knowledge about specific campus systemsfor heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration and abilityto repair same; ability to make adjustments to campus systems eithermanually or using computerized energy conservation programs. MinimumEntrance Requirements: Must have at least two years of full-time, orequivalent part- time technical experience in the installation,maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration, ventilating and airconditioning systems, or (B) any equivalent combination of the requiredexperience and the substitutions below. Substitutions A certificate ordiploma from a recognized institution above the high school level, asevidence of completion of a two year program in refrigeration andheating, may be substituted for one year of the required experience.**Education toward such a certificate or diploma will be prorated on thebasis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
