ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Housing Navigator for Home 4 Good supports a portfolio-based, eviction prevention initiative that identifies and assists tenants in rental arrears and serves as an instrumental liaison between the tenant and the landlord and/or service provider. The Navigator will be responsible for supporting tenants to address the long and short-term challenges affecting housing and economic instability. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
In conjunction with the partner landlord, perform targeted outreach to referred tenants facing housing instability
Manage a caseload of tenants with a range of rental and financial challenges that threaten their housing stability
Navigate access to benefit and social service assistance; connect tenants to financial assistance resources to aid in decreasing/clear rental arrears i.e., One Shot Deals, RiseBoro Homebase services, and other city/state/federal rent relief programs
Serve as a liaison for the tenant by following up with service providers and assisting where needed
Develop, maintain, and strengthen the collaborative partnerships/relationships with service providers to ensure smooth referral hand-offs
Assist tenants in obtaining and keeping rental assistance vouchers by providing information on new subsidies, referring tenants to the proper agency, advocating on their behalf, and advising them through the recertification process
Troubleshoot solutions to client crises as they arise; assist clients in accessing services by providing advocacy and support
Connect tenants to services to aid in maintaining sustainability i.e. workforce development/employment services, financial coaching, mental and physical health services , community-based organizations, household SNAP benefits, etc.
Provide monthly check-ins after initial resolution to support housing stability for 12 months
Ensure adherence to program metrics by tracking data and outcomes; utilize designated designed program tools as appropriate
Complete monthly and quarterly reports as needed
Represent RiseBoro in the community and at funder meetings as needed
Participate in management meetings as needed to address program challenges
Ensure all internal controls are functioning, adhered to, and up-to-date
Other related duties as assigned
COMPETENCIES
Demonstrated experience in homeless/housing services; proficient background knowledge of eviction prevention, NYC shelter system, public benefits/assistance, housing eviction proceedings, and other homeless services required
Experience working with clients, particularly those with multiple, overlapping challenges/ barriers to housing
Ability to manage a caseload of clients with diverse challenges
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; organized and detail-oriented
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop interdisciplinary relationships
A self-starter with the ability to be creative and inspire others; a positive attitude
Ability to think critically and make informed decisions
Ability to use knowledge, skills, and resources to advocate on behalf of the client population and problem-solve and think through complex challenges
Ability to travel to various sites and community locations throughout NYC as needed
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to manage time effectively and multiple tasks simultaneously to execute goals
Experience in case management or project management preferred
Bilingual English/Spanish speaker preferred
Proficiency with various computer programs including Microsoft Office programs ; ability to utilize technology in daily work; experience with web-based applications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree required
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in housing/homelessness/prevention social services required
