JOB REQUIREMENTS: Purpose of Position The purpose of this position is toassist the Highway Engineer and Engineer Technician in design and surveyof highway and bridge maintenance and construction projects tocomplement the county traffic system. The work is performed under thesupervision of the Highway Engineer. Essential Duties andResponsibilities The following duties are normal for this position.These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Otherduties may be required and assigned. Assist the surveyor to layout andinspect maintenance and construction sites using GPS, robotic totalstation and data collector. Assist in the inspection of highway andbridge construction projects. Assist Engineer with preparing engineeringplans with AutoCAD Civil 3D. To include but not limited to Plan &Profile sheets, Typical Sections, Layout, Cross Sections, Drainage andMiscellaneous details. Assist Engineer to generate engineering estimatesand calculations. Sample aggregates and bituminous materials on countyprojects for compliance with quality standards. Assist and performconstruction site surveys and staking. Assist Engineer with trafficcontrol plans and infield traffic control such as sign placement,flagging, and road closures. Assist Engineer with inspection anddocumentation of town, city and county bridges. Assist Engineer withcomputing and ordering construction materials supplies for constructionprojects. Inspect and enter data and information into a GIS-basedapplication for the highway asset inventory. Additional Tasks andResponsibilities While the following tasks are necessary for the work ofthe unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this positionand may also be performed by other unit members. Assist with flaggingneeds for the continued work efforts of the highway department.
