Verdantas is a national consulting group seeking a talented Health & Safety Manager to join our team in the Irvine, CA office. This position will act as the West Area Safety Lead and Radiation Safety Officer.
As a Verdantas Health and Safety Manager, you will collaborate with a team of skilled professionals to ensure that the highest standards of safety are being delivered and met. Responsibilities:
General:
Onboard newly hired employees on health & safety program requirements
Prepare and conduct new hire safety training, first aid/CPR training, radiation safety training, and other safety training as needed
Travel to other offices and jobsites in California area for training, and to conduct site safety assessments and incident investigations
Area Safety Lead (ASL):
Administer Verdantas’ health & safety program with the National Health & Safety Leader
Provide guidance and support to Department Leaders to ensure compliance and consistency in the Area
Maintain a working understanding of key health & safety regulations and Verdantas’ health & safety program
Reinforce consistent compliance with Verdantas' health & safety program and any client-specific requirements within the Verdantas West Area
Support project teams in health & safety-related matters
Reviewing, and approving site-specific health & safety plans for non-typical projects
Monitor health & safety program compliance at job sites through regular site safety assessments
Work with the National Health & Safety Leader and others to evaluate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and develop and implement effective corrective actions
Provide immediate support and guidance to workers in response to a work-related incident, injuries, or illnesses, including injury case management
Leading Verdantas’ health & safety culture by example
Radiation Safety Officer (RSO):
Ensure that the terms and conditions of Verdantas' radioactive materials license are being met and that the information contained in the license is up to date. Includes serving as the primary point of contact with CDPH
Ensure that the regulated equipment (i.e., soil moisture/density meters) are secured, maintained, calibrated, and tested in accordance with regulatory requirements and best practices
Maintain records as required by the license and regulations. These records shall include radiation exposure records, leak test records and training certificates for all users, and other required documents
Ensure that all regulated equipment users and transporters are trained, understand, and comply with Verdantas' radiation safety operating and emergency procedures
Qualifications:
BS. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety or a relative degree
5 - 10 years of experience in the engineering/environmental consulting or construction industry with a strong focus on health & safety
Working understanding of OSHA regulations
Proven experience presenting to large groups
ASP/CSP certification preferred
HAZWOPER 40-hr training and HAZWOPER Supervisor training certifications preferred
Radiation safety experience preferred
America Red Cross first aid/CPR instructor certification a plus
Ability to regularly travel throughout southern California (approximately 3-6 days/month) and occasional trips outside southern California
