Starting Salary Range: $72-85K annually, dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The successful candidate will be provided University-configured equipment and supportive technology tools, however, they are expected to have access to a reliable internet connection for duties undertaken remotely. Work arrangements will be discussed during the interview. Position Overview This position is a member of the Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science administration team, providing pre-award services to individual principal investigators (PIs) within the division. The Grants and Contracts Professional 3 will serve as an expert resource to faculty and division staff on the grant submission process, funding agency requirements, and grant budget development. The position works collaboratively and in consultation with University partners. Strong communication skills and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team under tight deadlines are important attributes for this position. Position Responsibilities Pre-award Coordination - 80% Prepares grant and contract budgets and electronic grant applications for a variety of government and private agencies (e.g National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)) and assists with interpretation of funding agency regulations and requirements. This includes grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, fixed price awards, and other potential funding mechanisms. Reviews components of grant submission, ensuring that proposals meet granting agency requirements. Contacts the funding agency to clarify eligibility, policy, and requirements, as needed. Collaborates with PIs, UMN Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) and post-award staff throughout the life of an award on issues such as advance account requests, contract interpretation, rebudgeting, subaward issuing, Enterprise Financial System (EFS) friendly requests, just-in-time requests, project period extensions, annual reporting (e.g., Research Performance Progress Reports) and carryforward requests. Develops budgets for annual grant renewals. Works with other departments and institutions to facilitate collaborative awards. Communicates to faculty and staff on University policy/procedure changes and updates of funding agency guidelines. Communicates effectively and builds positive relationships with a range of stakeholders involved in the pre-award process including investigators, granting agencies, and SPA and serves as a liaison on pre-award issues. Ensure that all issues are handled timely and in compliance with university and sponsor policies. Grant Tracking and Document Management - 15% Maintains databases and systems for recording and tracking grant proposals and awards. Update and prepare other support documents for faculty for Just-in-Time Requests from funding agencies, prime institutions, and other UMN collaborator proposals upon request. Assure that researchers are in compliance with University and federal research policies (Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), UMN Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), UMN Report of External Professional Activities (REPA), etc.). Policy and Training - 5% Develops a strong working knowledge of university and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to and impacting grants management and serves as an expert to faculty and staff. Continues professional development by attending relevant courses, workshops, seminars, professional society meetings and other training opportunities, and attending necessary and appropriate University training. Keeps up-to-date on University and funding agency systems (e.g. Electronic Grants Management System (EGMS), NIH Application Submission & Interface for Submission Tracking (ASSIST), Grants.gov, Research.gov, NIH Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv)). Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree plus four years of experience performing budgetary or grant management duties or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years Demonstrated ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects with fixed deadlines and ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed to meet all deadlines Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and similar Google tools Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace Preferred Qualifications: Experience with pre-award grants management. Experience in an academic environment. Knowledge of University policies and procedures. Experience with electronic systems such as ASSIST, research.gov, Proposal Central and other grant management (e.g. UMN's EGMS), sponsor grant databases (e.g. NIH RePORTER) and funding opportunity databases (e.g. PIVOT) or University of Minnesota financial systems.
