Job Summary
The Orientation & Transition’s Graduate Intern will aid with the coordination and implementation of University of Utah’s New Student Orientation for our new first-year and transfer students along with Parent, Family & Support Orientation.
New Student Orientation is designed to welcome new first-year and transfer students to the University of Utah for the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Our office collaborates with a variety of campus partners to create a great experience for new students and their families. This position will be expected to work 40 hours per week during the summer. Start and end dates are flexible, but preference will be given to candidates who can begin on or before May 6th, 2024 and expected to end August 2nd, 2024. This position will entail working with the Assistant Directors and Director of the Office of Orientation & Transition to execute the following responsibilities, Supervision, Administrative, Programming, and Staff Development.
The Graduate Intern will receive a stipend of $6,000 before taxes (May 2024 – August 2024).
Stipend will be distributed in equal payments on a semi-monthly schedule.
Graduate Interns will receive Private On-Campus Housing accommodations (May 2024 – August 2024).
Meals provided during New Student Orientation programming and limited Dining Dollars.Access to state-of-the-art Student Life Center.Responsibilities
Serve as a professional staff member within Orientation & Transition, and as such, represent the office, the Division of Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and the University of Utah with professionalism and good judgment.Develop positive working relationships with all full-time, graduate, and undergraduate Orientation & Transition staff.Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, distracting environment, and display a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and be willing to work the expected and unexpected hours necessary to implement successful Orientation & Transition programs.Assist with the supervision and facilitation of training for 2 Orientation Team Leaders and 40 Orientation Leaders (OL Retreat & Intensive Training).Assist with the implementation of each Orientation (New Student and Parent & Family) sessions for first year and transfer students, helping welcome over 6000 new students and over 3000 family members to campus.To support all Orientation & Transition programs and actively engage in New Student Orientation sessions.Serve as an on-site resource and first night responder in residence halls during overnight programs.To adhere to the Office of Orientation and Transitions Code of Conduct to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all, and to be sensitive to the uniqueness of each situation and the individual(s) involved in New Student Orientation.To role model behavior that is reflective of a campus leader, both in person and through all forms of communication.To remain professional in my communications with Office of Orientation & Transition staff members, incoming students, campus partners, and all other guests during Orientation & Transition programs.To participate in goal setting and performance evaluation throughout employment, and to meet with my supervisor weekly.Participate in ongoing professional & staff development, attend Orientation & Transition staff meetings, and support Enrollment Management initiatives.To seek clarification on any Graduate Intern expectations from a professional staff member if I have questions.Must be committed to having a new learning experience, exploring ideas, and actively seeking knowledge in new areas of higher education.Work other duties as assigned. Is enrolled in a Graduate programCompletion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.Previous experience with orientation, new student programs, leadership, advising, programming, student activities, or related area preferred.Previous experience with training and/or supervision is preferred.Special Instructions Summary
