About General Ledger Accountant

  SUMMARY: Responsible for performing professional accounting duties related to the preparation, maintenance and reporting of financial data. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. 1. Manages and prepares journal entries to ensure proper general ledger coding; including validating accuracy and ensuring that transactions are reporting in accordance with accounting standards. 2. Performs general account analysis and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts. 3. Reviews, approves and processes expense reports for payment. 4. Maintains currency of state tax laws to ensure processes are in place and deadlines are met for sales tax and unclaimed property. 5. Assists in the preparation of Federal, State and Property tax returns and filings, as well as various state requirements including business license, rent and COI requests within required deadlines, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting or other requirements. 6. Assists with month-end and year-end close process and production of corresponding financial statements. 7. Provides recommendations and guidance to management staff in regards to expense management and balance sheets. 8. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. 9. Promotes and supports the overall mission of Pace Analytical by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with customers and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience: Associates degree in accounting, or a closely related field; AND two (2) years of professional accounting experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. * None. Required Knowledge and Skills Required Knowledge: * Principles and practices of general accounting. * Policies and procedures; codes and regulations related to duties assigned. * Computer applications related to the work. * Financial record keeping and accounting practices and techniques. * Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. * Practices of reviewing financial documents for completeness and accuracy. Required Skills: * Reviewing financial documents for completeness and accuracy. * Interpreting, applying and explaining applicable laws, codes and regulations. * Maintaining accurate financial records and preparing accurate and timely reports. * Performing accurate arithmetic calculations. * Working without close supervision in standard work situations. * Interpreting, explaining and applying principles and practices of general accounting. * Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines. * Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. * Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals contacted in the course of the work. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office setting. #LI-CG1 Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm Full Time 40+ hours a week. Monday through Friday.
