This Fish Biologist position is in the Office of Energy Projects. For more information visit: Office of Energy Projects (OEP) | Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (ferc.gov) Responsibilities This position is located in the Division of Hydropower Licensing in the Washington, DC or New York offices of the Office of Energy Projects. As a Fish Biologist, some of your typical work assignments may include: Analyzing and providing recommendations on a wide variety of fish biology issues associated with the construction and operation of hydropower facilities and proposing recommendations to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts. Preparing EISs and EAs pursuant to NEPA that analyze a range of fish biology issues. Planning, executing, moderating, and making presentations at public scoping meetings, comment meetings, federal/state/local government meetings, stakeholder meetings and conferences. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. A one-year probationary period may be required. A background investigation is required. This is a bargaining unit position. Generally, male applicants must be registered with the Selective Service. This position has an education requirement, you must submit transcripts. Relocation expenses will not be paid. You may be required to divest certain energy-related securities. You must meet all eligibility and qualification (experience and/or education) requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Qualifications To view the eligibility and qualification requirements of a Fish Biologist, GS-408, please visit: Fish Biologist, 0482 | Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (ferc.gov) In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience preparing documents (such as Environmental Assessments or Environmental Impact Statements pursuant to NEPA or other laws or regulations, study plans or reports, research papers, or license or permit applications) that assess the effects on fish biology from existing or proposed infrastructure (to include but not limited to dams, levees, surface water intakes, canals, flumes, water and wastewater treatment systems, stormwater retention and control, constructed wetlands, hydropower projects, roads, pipelines, airports, solar arrays, windfarms, fossil fueled generating plants, nuclear plants, commercial fisheries, agriculture and aquaculture). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
