Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Fish Biologist or Aquatic Ecologist to participate in a variety of science projects related to fish ecology, behavior, and habitat. The position will be based in our Bellingham, WA, Redmond, WA or Portland, OR office. We do expect this position to be in the office on a weekly basis and will collaborate to determine the best work environment to meet professional and personal needs.Salary: $85,000 - $100,000/year (based on experience)Who You AreA passionate Fish Biologist/Ecologist with an MS in Fisheries, ecology, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of experience working with and studying aquatic species and their habitats in the Pacific Northwest and/or Alaska.Knowledgeable: Highly motivated candidate that has a deep knowledge of regional ecology and has the drive to lead projects related to aquatic and ecological sciences. Knowledge of diadromous fish species ecology, life history and species differentiation, and an understanding of species' habitat requirements across different spatial scales. Familiarity with fish population, fish collection and aquatic habitat assessment impacts to fish is also desired. Proficient with MS Office Suite including Excel and Access. Competency in scientific writing and data analysis for study reports, study planning, agency consultation and communication, and regulatory documents. Knowledge of GIS, coding/R and habitat, data visualization, population, or climate modeling skills are beneficial.Experienced: Required experience includes working in and around rivers within the Pacific Northwest, Northern California or Alaska conducting field work with juvenile and adult Pacific salmon and their habitat. Leading field and project teams for multiple projects across various habitats, skill in handling and working from boats, kayaking, and wading in moving water. Desired experience includes field and desk top analysis on other native fish and aquatic species and their habitats including, bull trout, lamprey, sucker, freshwater mussels, water quality assessment and monitoring, data management, presentation of study plans and results to agency and stakeholder groups. Familiarity with project management processes is beneficial.Dedicated: Willingness to travel for work throughout the US and Canada.
