This position is hybrid in nature requiring 2 days/week on-site at the Westinghouse Global Headquarters facility in Cranberry Woods, PA in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. No relocation will be provided for this position. Your Day-to-Day:The Fire Protection Specialist (part-time) will leverage their extensive experience in the nuclear industry to provide mentoring and support to less-experienced staff, helping to raise the overall skill level and aptitudes of the Fire Protection Engineering team through the sharing of their personal operating experiences and lessons learnedProvide mentoring and support to multi-disciplinary, diverse, and geographically-distributed teams of fire protection specialists in the design of complex, large-scale fire detection, fire suppression and emergency signaling systems equipment and procedures in accordance with all applicable governing Codes and Standards and industry best practicesProvide mentoring and support for the development of performance-based design analyses utilizing fire protection engineering principles, Code analyses, consultation with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, computer-based fire modeling, egress calculations, and other available resources as necessary to suit the specifics of each applicationSupport the development of engineering personnel through technical mentoring, professional guidance, and coaching on the adoption and adherence to procedures and governance related to the execution of engineering work and delivery of engineering products and consulting services.Provide mentoring and support for the development of strategy, organization and execution of creating fire detection and emergency signaling system design and layout plans, schematics, equipment specifications, supporting design calculations, system narratives, and construction specifications for both new construction and retrofit of existing facilitiesProvide mentoring and support for the development of strategy, organization and execution of creating fire suppression system design criteria, specifications and layouts, preliminary hydraulic calculations, fire pump selection specifications, and fire detection system integration in both new construction and retrofit applications.Provide mentoring and support for the execution of special hazard fire protection designs, including but not limited to aspirating and beam-type smoke detection, video imaging detection, flame detection, gas-based suppression systems, foam systems, water-based systems including dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and water-mist systems, dry chemical systems, suppression system monitoring and control, and smoke control system integration.
Who You Are:As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:Minimum 4 years of related work experience, includes direct experience in the provision of fire protection engineering and consulting services in the nuclear industryThe successful candidate must be able and willing to submit for and maintain federal and facility-specific security clearance(s).Fire protection engineers have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. They must provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients, having great interpersonal skills, strong oral communication skills and above-average written communications with an emphasis on their ability to clarify the requirements of applicable Codes and Standards.
