　　Job Description

　　FINANCIAL ASSISTANT III, Morningside Academy for Design (MIT MAD) (https://design.mit.edu/) (term), to provide complex and diverse financial support--including A/P, A/R, account reconciliation, researching transactions, maintaining documentation, and identifying opportunities to introduce efficiencies while adhering to Generally Acceptable Accounting Practices (GAAP)--for a growing start-up that is establishing core financial systems and processes. Will act as a senior-level financial support professional, serving as a resource for others. Responsibilities include approving purchases, reviewing and processing financial expenditures/transactions, reconciling accounts, maintaining records, and introducing system improvements as needed; reviewing, processing, and tracking payments and reconciling all bills, invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, and requests for payment; depositing funds into appropriate accounts and monitoring fund and sponsored accounts; confirming payments and receipts for MAD’s accounts; assisting with developing guidelines, procedures, and templates for financial review and control; monthly account reviews; serving as a resource for other assistants and staff; ensuring MAD is compliant with MIT policy and GAAP; establishing and maintaining accounting records; preparing reports; proposing and implementing efficiencies/process changes; and performing other duties as assigned.

　　Job Requirements

　　REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; five years’ accounting/finance experience; comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and what constitutes an acceptable financial structure with appropriate checks, balances, and oversight; flexibility; ability to handle a wide variety of duties during the academy’s start-up phase, learn quickly, follow through on tasks, and work with critical time demands; strong organizational skills; discretion, diplomacy, and excellent judgment with sensitive/confidential matters; and attention to detail and accuracy. Seek a communicative team player who can work effectively with a creative and diverse group of people in an environment with competing priorities. PREFERRED: knowledge of MIT.
