Overview:
The analyst will be responsible with performing activities related to the organization's compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Act. This includes the execution and review of financial controls testing, evaluating end-to-end processes and enforcing M&T internal control standards, identification of critical data elements used in the preparation of financial reports, and actively participating in the identification and remediation of SOX control deficiencies. The analyst will have an opportunity to work across many areas of the company and its operations, with direct exposure to senior leadership.
Primary Responsibilities:
Evaluate new processes and assisting the Business Line in the identification and formalization of key controls within their process
Build and maintain internal control documentation including process flow diagrams and process narratives
Assess design and operating effectiveness of highly critical controls to ensure they mitigate identified risks
Prepare clear, concise, appropriately referenced work papers to document test procedures performed and conclusion drawn
Execute process walkthrough meetings with Reporting team and Data Providers, gaining an understanding of the controls over the regulatory reporting process, flagging critical data elements used in reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Periodically monitoring and testing the controls surrounding the preparation and filing of regulatory reports in accordance with the instructions to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Monitor remediation of control deficiencies identified and provide recommendations for operational improvements
Identify gaps or limitations within our financial processes and systems, and work with senior leaders to develop and implement internal controls to sufficiently mitigate risk
Build effective working relationships with business process owners across many areas of the organization, as well as internal and external audit.

May train junior staff
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience OR Associate's degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, auditing, operations or financial institutions
Good knowledge of finance and accounting concepts, business operations and/or bank products and basic knowledge of banking industry
High level of PC competencies (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access. Data visualization or data querying applications are a plus.)
Detail oriented, with strong problem-solving skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $60,890.34 - $101,483.90 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
