Position Summary: Provides expert financial guidance and assistance to tenants living in public housing to promote financial literacy and improve their financial well-being, develop budgets, and make informed financial decisions
Key Responsibilities : 1. Financial Assessments: Conduct thorough assessments of individual tenants' financial situations. Identify areas for improvement and develop tailored financial plans. 2. Budgeting and Debt Management: Provide guidance on reducing debt, prioritizing payments, and developing strategies to increase savings. 3. Housing expenses: educate tenants on managing the housing related expenses. Advise on available resources, subsidies, and assistance programs that may be applicable. 4. Financial planning: collaborate with tenants to set short-term and long-term financial goals. 5. Financial education: organize and deliver workshops, seminars, and one on one guidance sessions to enhance tenants. 6. Referrals: establish working relationship with local agencies that provide financial support, housing assistance, and other related services; refer tenants to appropriate resources. 7. Research and stay up-to-date with financial trends, relevant rules, regulations and best practices and share knowledge and insights with tenants to keep them informed and empowered and encourage self-sufficiency. 8. Documentation and reporting: maintain detailed records of tenant interactions, financial plans and outcomes. Prepare regular progress reports. 9. Work collaboratively with the property management, Resident Services and other SHA staff members to provide assistance and support to residents to help them with maintaining housing, and preventing eviction. 10. Conduct outreach in different SHA developments. Planning and organizing community events. Conduct training and provide support to tenants on using Yardi software to setup rent and charges payments. 11. Perform other similar duties as assigned or directed by supervisor
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree, in finance economics business all related field or equivalent experience or a combination of an Associate degree and experience in sole determination of the SHA . Proven experience in financial advisement, preferably with a focus on low income, communities or public housing. Strong knowledge of budgeting, money management, credit building and basic financial principles. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial concepts in a relatable manner, empathy, patience, and ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of local community organizations and agencies that provide financial support services. Proficiency in various financial tools and software for budgeting tracking expenses and analyzing financial data. Knowledge of Microsoft programs. Excellent public speaking skills. Knowledge of the basics of public housing programs (including rules and regulations, rent calculation, lease requirements) is preferred; if not available, a Public Housing certification must be obtained within 12 months. Knowledge of Yardi is preferred; if not available, must be able to learn within the first 3 months. Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred. Ability to walk and stand for up to 8 hours a day and climb stairs when conducting outreach. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds. Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to travel between SHA sites.
